Singapore has a rapidly aging population. In 2015, 1 in 8 persons were 65 years or older. It has been predicted that by 2030, this will increase to 1 in 4. But why is this a concern?

Lesson Objectives

People approach late adulthood and the process of aging differently . In this chapter, we will look at the psychological state of persons in late adulthood and its impact on health behaviours and decision making.

This will be covered using the following lesson outline:

•Identifying psychosocial factors influencing health and help seeking behaviours in older adults;

•Understanding grief through Kubler-Ross’s Five Stages of Grief;

•Application of the Health Belief Model to seeking early diagnosis for Dementia.
