Crafting is one UO’s foundational offerings, but it’s also been the most tedious. You either had to manually navigate a slew of tools and corresponding menus, or you had to have the scripting skills to automate it. Outlands simplifies and streamlines crafting with the crafting queue so that crafting is more accessible for all players.
To open the crafting queue, double click a crafting tool and then select Open Crafting Queue in the lower right hand corner. The above gump on the left is what your tools will look like if they are stored in the Resource Stockpile. If you don’t know what that is, ignore it for now.
To add an item to your crafting queue, go back to the menu opened by our crafting tool. If you select the icon that looks like 3 mummies standing side by side, that item will be added to your crafting queue. If you do not see these buttons, open your crafting queue and they will appear.
A. If you use the same crafting queues repeatedly – such as for crafting suits of armor – the options in this row let you save and manage those queues. This particular button lets you rename the queue to make it easier to select later.
B. If you’d like to create a new queue, hit the top diamond. If you’d like to delete your selected queue, hit the bottom blue button.
C. This row will appear when you add an item to your crafting queue, and you can remove it by clicking this X button.
D. You may want to re-order your crafting queue so that items are made in a particular sequence. These arrows will move an item up or down a row.
E. This jewel gives you the power to set a completion condition for this row. You have the following to choose from:
Craft until X made
Crafting until X exceptional made
Craft until X skill reached
Craft until resources depleted
These options are where the crafting queue shines, and I want to emphasize that you have the option to set a skill goal here, making AFK macroing much easier than it was in the dark days when we didn’t have a crafting queue.
F. Recycling items allows you to recover some crafting materials from a completed item. You will use Recycle All when you are training crafting to maximize the return on your investment and you will use Recycle Non-Exceptional when you are making gear for dungeon crawling or if you have a society job that specifically requires exceptional items to complete.
G. The crate represents the source container for your supplies and the bag represents the destination container for where the item goes when it is complete. The destination container is handy for restocking a Storage Shelf or for organizing items into chests. If a container is not selected, it will be gray, and your destination container will default to your backpack if none is selected.
H. Start your crafting queue.
I. If your queue has more than 5 items, these arrows will navigate to the other pages.
J. Instead of setting each container manually, this lets you set all of the containers on the page to the containers of your choice.
Double check the material before you commit to starting your queue because it’s very easy to accidentally select the wrong material.
Double check whether you want regular items or exclusively exceptional.
Double check your recycle settings.
If you are macroing a skill, set a series of items in your queue with the skill gain completion modifier to automate the process and preserve materials.
