Society jobs are a critical part of your progression on Outlands. Completing these weekly quests earns you society points, which you can trade in for a range of rewards – such as gold mastery chain links. Here’s the good news: Society jobs are designed to reward you for doing things you would do in UO anyway, so even a brand new player can start collecting society points almost from day one.
Here are the highpoints for how societies work:
Society jobs reset every Friday night during Tabula Rasa, which is currently 8pm EDT but may change for daylight savings and such.
The number of society jobs you can take is divided by account, and those jobs are “shared” with every character on that account. That means your main could choose crafting jobs and then you can switch to your crafter character on that account to complete them.
You can open the society menu to view your jobs and track your progress by typing [society or navigating to societies from the HELP button on your paperdoll.
Each society master (or category) has its own unique rewards, like clothing, cloths, and dyes that can only be acquired by doing those jobs.
There is no penalty for failing to complete a society job.
If you want to abandon a society job to pick up another, you can do so at-will and without penalty.
To start completing societies, the first step is to head to the Society Hall in Prevalia:
A. The map view of the Society Hall location for your reference.
B. All of the society masters are within this building and nowhere else.
C. The Monster Hunter Society Master – Has hunting and dungeon crawling societies.
D. The Tradesman Union Master – Has carpentry and tinkering crafting societies.
E. The Artificer Enclave Master – Has alchemy and inscription crafting societies.
F. The Seafarer League Master – Has boating and fishing-based societies.
G. Order of Armorers Master – Has blacksmithing and tailoring crafting societies.
H. Adventurer Lodge Master – Has lockpicking, treasure-hunting, and taming-based societies.
You are limited in how many society jobs you can take each week, so you should aim to select the jobs you are most likely to complete. While that’s a simple idea on its face, your actual process for choosing individual jobs will be a combination of preference, your own estimate of your time availability that week, and efficiency.
On the efficiency front, these factors might play a role in what jobs you take:
Weekly dungeon bonuses (viewable by clicking the maps outside of every bank or by heading to the guild house to use ours).
Active guild favors, like a bonus to gold or experience in a particular dungeon that may have a society that week, making that job easier and more productive to complete.
The time a society is likely to take to complete, which may or may not be influenced by randomization beyond your control. For example, killing 87 of a creature that only spawns two at a time in one particular dungeon will take a great deal of time to complete – time that might be better spent farming for gold. Or the job could be to kill a paragon of a certain creature, which presents a similar challenge but now also requires a good bit of luck.
Overlap between societies, which means you could potentially complete several jobs at once. For example, you could take an Aegis dungeon job for 150,000 gold and also take a kill 36 chaos knights job because those also spawn in Aegis.
Since you can abandon jobs at any time, you might drop a job late in the week that you weren’t able to complete to pick up an easier job that you can finish before the next Tabula Rasa.
To actually take society jobs, you will click on one the masters from the society hall graphic above, which will open a menu containing jobs for that master. For example, this is what the Monster Hunter Society menu looks like:
J. The total number of overall society points your account has earned in this category – a highscore essentially.
K. The actual number of points you have available to spend on rewards from this category.
L. The button you press to launch the reward menu (more on this shortly).
M. MONSTERS!
N. Clicking this diamond accepts the job on this line.
O. The requirement for completing the society job.
P. How many points you will earn by meeting those requirements.
R. Launches the same overview menu as entering [society (more on this next
S. The time you have remaining in the week to complete your selected jobs.
T. Use these arrows to scroll through all of the available jobs each week. It’s a good idea to read all of them before choosing which ones you take.
U. How many job slots you have remaining on your account. At zero, you can no longer accept new jobs that week.
You can launch this menu by hitting the button labeled R. in the graphic above or by typing [society from anywhere in the game. This menu gives you an at-a-glance view of your society progress and active jobs. Clicking the diamond next to the Society category will open a menu to show your active jobs and your progress toward completing.
