So, two years down the line, we are working on this section. It hasn’t changed since our original Dentdale 1.1. We were given the red line as a suggested route by B4RN.
Just over 2 kilometres from A to B, 14 properties, road down the middle with a large water main and a BT line in most of it.
Start from scratch.
It’s going to need 2 chambers, that seems right, and yes it seems you need one somewhere in the ‘4’ area and one near ‘5’ to minimise the spur lengths. The house at ‘3’ looks like it can be fed from A, and the one at B looks simple enough.
The red line looks direct and goes fairly near to the houses. Go and have a look at it, if that route is feasible then it will do nicely. 4 of the 14 properties are on the other side of the road, how and where to cross the road will then be a priority to see if the red route still works.
Walk the route
A chamber at 4 would be inaccessible. There is a track to it, but you wouldn’t take a car up there.
Talking to the farmers at 1 and the people in the posher houses below them at 2 you soon realise that they already have some access and drainage ‘issues’ between them and some of the routes you would like to use you will not easily get common agreement.
Further on, round ‘5’ you see some super fields for moleploughing on the south side of the road. The red route goes through some more dubious stuff at ‘6’.
These factors immediately make your red line impossible. You start again by exploring where the road can be crossed and whether you can make use of those nice-looking fields you saw. That could work, but it looks like your next problem is how to get to the farms at ‘1’.
Next stage is to look at the utility maps and to walk the road looking for crossing places. Lots of places have a high bank on one side of the road, and there is that large water main. You narrow it down to some best chances of a crossing.
Getting to the farmers at ‘1’ is solved pretty much by talking to them and asking them what they would do. The solution is to supply them via the house at ‘3’ and connect at chamber ’A’, long spurs but not actually much more digging, since you have to get to house ‘3’ anyway.
Lots more detailed planning and a fair bit of walking and you get the purple line as your intended route.
