DHET ACCREDITED INDEXES

Funding from the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)

For a national South African research institution to qualify for research funding from the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), researchers are required to publish in scholarly journals accredited by the DHET. The DHET also subsidises proceedings to be presented at approved conferences and published in approved conference proceedings. Research Offices at higher education institutions are responsible for administering research output and the application for funding.

DHET Policy 2015

DHET Research Outputs Policy Gazette 2015 & DHET Communique 2 of 2015

DHET notice February 2019

Please note that the Department has highlighted that from 2019 all the journals appearing in the following indices, SciELO SA, CA/Web of Science, IBSS, will not appear in the DHET list (DHET 2019). This means that the affected journals have to comply with the conditions, quality checks and stipulated publishing policy of that particular index. In January 2021 DOAJ was also added to the list of automatically accredited indexes.

For any questions on, or related to the above matter, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Walter Ntuli at Ntuli.w@dhet.gov.za / 012 312 5675.
