The Gateway programme provides broader educational options and strengthens pathways for secondary school students to further education and training or employment. All state secondary, state-integrated secondary, and partnership schools/kura hourua with students at year 11 and above are eligible to apply for Gateway funding. The purpose is to provide students with opportunities to develop a clear understanding of the knowledge and skills required for future employment.
Gateway Programmes typically consist of 20 credits in NCEA related Unit Standards and students are expected to do a minimum of 10 working days in the community. This can be spread out to one day a week over 10 weeks at school or

In 2021 ASDAH had 21 places for Gateway Programmes. (This number has been consistent for a number of years) Because of COVID not all places were filled. We had :
5 students (Year 12 & 13) complete a Retail Programme (Bunnings and NO 1 Shoes in Manukau) - holiday programmes
9 students doing the Level 2 MITO Programme - Automotive Engineering - they were unable to finish because they couldn't do their practical - spread out over the year
1 student (Year 13) doing a Level 3 & 4 computer engineering programme - holiday work
How do I get on a Gateway Programme?
You must be 16 years old
at the end of the year Year 11 & 12 students are asked to complete a survey to indicate where their interests lie
complete the online survey on Teams to indicate your interests
approach the Careers Coordinator at ASDAH and ask! - Make sure they know you!
Not everybody will be successful! Remember there are only 21 places !
