RULES:
COLOR
The design is limited to four colors maximum.
Black and white, if used, each count as a color.
All colors must be flat and solid, with no shading, blending or halftones.
There can be no colorless areas.
SHAPE AND SIZE & LETTERING
The design must fill the shape provided on the template (below)
No other shape or size may be used. (5x5 in square)
The wording which must appear on the sticker is provided on the template (Below)
The typeface must be Arial bold 36 and cannot be altered, stretched, etc.
The artist may arrange the lettering in any way.
All wording must be used.
No other wording, including the artist's signature, may appear on the design.
Create a 13x13 inch document in Illustrator
We are going to use the vinyl cutter so you MUST create outlines of your image. To check to go View>Outline
Flip your image or it will print backwards on your shirt!
We are going to make a 40 page notepad!
Start a 5.5 in wide x 8.5in high document.
Design your notecard
Edit artboard and make it 11x8.5
copy the design to the other half when finished.
General Directions:
You will be completing five assignments that total 200 points.
Follow the directions completely and submit digital files via Schoology assignment titled “2022 Final Exam.”
Show your best work, don’t hold back with details or creativity.
Do not use someone else’s design in any way or you will receive no credit for that assignment.

Part A
Create a Restaurant Menu: ( 50 points )
*Text can be found in Schoology. The restaurant owner is looking for a vibrant and geometric design that is easy to read.
- Thumbnail sketches below (10 points)
- Add Name of restaurant create your own or call it “Mariner Diner” ( 5 points )
- A border and/or imagery and/or background color, pattern, texture etc. ( 10 points )
- Edit text font to fit the theme with downloaded font from dafont.com ( 5 points )
- Create outlines of text ( 5 points )
- Unified style and theme fit the intended audience ( 5 points )
- Craftsmanship and alignment (10 points )
Part B
Identify Color Relationships in images( 40 points )
- Change the shape’s fill below each image to reflect colors in the image ( 5 points/image )
- Choose the correct color relationship for each picture ( 5 points/image )
Part C
Design an advertisement for an MLK Parade ( 35 points )
*The purpose of the flier will be to advertise for the Martin Luther King Parade.
Tip: Showcase your best work, you want this to catch someone’s eye and create excitement for the parade*
- Indicate or show the route goes from Greene park to the Civic Center ( 5 points )

*Your design firm team needs a floral, natural, organic looking background for a poster they’re designing for an energetic, youthful music festival advertisement*

Typography Assignment (35 points)
Use any tool to indicate your answer.

Graphic Design II Final Review
Your final will be completed in Illustrator. You will be asked a series of questions like multiple choice or matching, and to create at least 3 different designs.
Know what makes a strong design.
-All things visual hierarchy
-Balanced
-Font Style
-Composition: Effective use of space
-The Gestalt Principles
-Font pairing techniques
Color relationships: analogous, monochromatic, triadic, complementary etc. Review the importance of color in any design.
Review the Elements and Principles of Design
Know about and how to do the following: Similar projects will be on the final.
-Create a pattern design making, restaurant menu, sticker designs, logo designs, informational fliers, or infographics.
Describe/identify the following
-Sans serif
-Script
-serif type
-Left Justified Alignment
-Kerning
-leading
-how many different font styles are recommended in a design? Less than 2.

-Know how to save as .AI and as .JPG formats

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
As a student in this course, you will be using Adobe Creative Cloud to explore elements of graphic design. You will use the design process and principles of design to study typography, apply design theories, brand and marketing strategies, create custom logos, t-shirts, and mock ups.

MacBook Air Lab:
In this course students will have the privilege of using a dedicated MacBook Air computer lab that we will have access to for every class.
These computers are significantly more expensive than Chromebooks and as such need to be treated with the utmost respect.
Students will be assigned a MacBook that they will use throughout the semester and will be checked on routinely to make sure the device is being used appropriately.
There will be no food or drink allowed in this class with no exceptions.
Students who cannot treat the lab respectfully will be removed. Because students will be using macs they will not ever need their Chromebooks.
Classroom Rules and Expectations:
Come to class on time and be prepared to learn and participate
Complete all assignments to the best of your ability
Treat everyone with dignity and respect
Ask for help or clarification when needed
At the end of the work period, save your work, turn your computer off, and clean up your area
Working in the lab is a privilege, not a right. This privilege will be revoked if the teacher feels it
necessary
Appropriate Images:
The misuse of copyrighted or use of potentially offensive images will not be allowed in class assignments. Licensed characters, such as cartoon figures, sports mascots, comic book art, etc., will not be allowed in student work, unless the assignment requires their use. Students will be encouraged to use original art, unless the assignment calls for the use of stock art or photography
Transcripted Credit:
MATC Credit Equivalent: GRDS 103 - Design Elements & Principles
All juniors and seniors are able to earn 3 college credits for free upon completion of this class with a B (80%) or better. You will complete an MATC application and upon completion of the class you will see the credits on your transcript through MATC. Keep in mind these credits are very often transferable to other universities as Adobe programs and the way they are taught are similar across the state and country. Tardy Policy:
Being tardy on a regular basis loses valuable learning time, every 5 tardies will result in automatic half participation credit for the week. 5 tardies also result in a referral.
Absent Policy:
If absent, it is your responsibility to research the missed information. The number of days from class is the amount of time you have to complete the material missed with full credit.
Late Work & Resubmissions:
In the industry, there are deadlines. However, this is an education environment and individuals work at different paces. Therefore, you have 1 opportunity to resubmit an assignment and you will be re-graded and receive the better of the grades. Late work is accepted with 10% off. Additional points will be deducted, the later it is turned in to the instructor.

Class Fee:
Students are required to pay a $25 class fee. Please address all check to St. Francis High School. The fee will be used to buy all materials and application membership fees for the students. Please pay as soon as possible. If needed, payment plans are available through the office.
