Extension Projects

Extension projects follow a related chapter from the Classroom in a Book lesson

Personal Collage

What: To create a collage of images about you

Why: To help me and your classmates to get to know you

How: Using a collage app (Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop) or google slides

When: Due ________

The collage must include the following imagery:

1. Your name large and in a style of font and color matching your collage

2. A symbol of where you live now or a place you have been or want to go someday

3. Two or more imagery of a hobby or interest

4. Movie, TV, videogame, or book that is a favorite or yours

5. Where you see yourself in the future

6. A symbol or image representing the best part of your summer

7. A background color or texture (not just plain white)

Words and labels optional

You will be asked to share at least 2 items from your collage Friday/Monday

Project #2: Selection Practice

Turn in as a .AI file and as a .JPG file or you will recieve a 0

To turn the file into a JPG go to File>Export As> format: JPG (only do this when at the very end)

To turn the file into a .AI go to File>Save As or Save a Copy>Save on Computer

Rename your file with Finished_Buckslogo_yourname

10 points for finishing, 10 points craftsmanship (how clean it looks)

Project #3: Shipping Company Logo Design

Turn in as a .AI(vector) file and as a .JPG(raster) file or you will recieve a 0

To turn the file into a JPG go to File>Export>JPG (only do this when at the very end)

To turn the file into a .AI go to File>Save As>Save on your computer

Rename your file with Finished_ShippingLogoDesign_yourname

 DIRECTIONS:

Extension Project #3   -    Shipping Company Logo    -   Shape-Based Logos

 

For this project, you are going to create a logo created with custom shapes (1 logo in color and a black & white version).  


You will create a logo for a new shipping company. They specialize in environmentally friendly product transportation options. They use electric vehicles and sustainably sourced, compostable, plastic-free packaging materials. The company wants a logo that will help deliver a message of professionalism, responsibility, and reliability. 

 

Your final project should include… 

3 rough sketches BEFORE beginning the digital file

Start an 8x8 inch document for print in Illustrator

Use custom shapes created by combining shapes and using the corners options. Use the direct selection tool and any other live shape editing techniques we used in lesson 3 and lessons prior.

The logo is proportional / balanced (use the group and align functions)


1 logo created in a black/white, copy it and make a colored version

Your FINAL FINISHED file should be submitted via schoology Projects>Shipping Company Logo Design - Extension Project 3 in both .ai and .jpg

     ________/30 pts.

3. ________   Example reflects requirements/customized text/objects related to the company

4. ________   Finished versions reflect proper use of color model of your choosing

Project #4: Nouns from Compound Shapes

Download and open the file below in Illustrator called "Ext. Proj. 4.ai"

Step 1: Use the shapes on the bottom half to recreate the shape on the top half using pathfinder commands (Union, minus front, intersect, exclude)

Step 2: Copy the shapes you made to artboard 2 to create a person, place, and thing.

Submit as the .JPG and .AI formats.

GRADING:

20 points - using the correct compound shapes, organizing your layers, and other tools

10 points - craftsmanship: Does it look neat and purposeful? How far did you go to create something unique in step 2? Does your combination of shapes tell a story or create unified scene or theme?

-Remember to select BOTH shapes (must have at least 2 shapes selected in order for compound shape commands to work)

Project #5: SSR Transform - Pixel Art

Your FINAL FINISHED file should be submitted via schoology Projects>Extension Project #5  in both .ai and .jpg

Project #8: Self Portrait

For this project, you are going to create a self portrait from a photo. You will import the photo into Illustrator with the File > Place command. You will then trace out the major elements of the photo with the pen tool, and then apply colors, fills and gradients as you see fit. Your file/Artboard should be set up at 8.5 x 11 with print intent. 


Submit your finished files in both .ai and .jpg  format.

Project #9: Text Based Logo

TEXT BASED LOGO     

For this project, you are to create at least ONE LOGO in 2 formats (1 color & 1 black and white) focused primarily on text related tools for an independent custom construction/fabrication firm. 


The client:

SS&E (Saturdays, Sundays and Evenings) offers a variety of construction, electrical and custom tool and fabrication services. The client has identified that they prefer tones of grey and yellow, or standard construction themes in addition to a black and white version for each logo you create. Your logos can and should include the use of:

CREATE OUTLINES command to customize the look and points/anchors of text

TYPE ON A PATH command to create flowing text to compliment the logo

TOUCH TYPE TOOL command to customize the look any additional text

SHAPE AND PEN TOOL use for creating framing or any additional decorative shapes


Check List:

1. _______  File size is 8x8 inches 

2. _______  Custom Font downloaded, installed and customized (dafont.com)

3. _______  Create Outlines command used to customize and/or fuse multiple letters to form logo 

4. _______  All objects contain fills/strokes that are custom colors and saved as swatches

Project #10: Art & Pattern Brushes

1. Download the attached template

2. In the Artboard 1: Make a line or design or pattern using the pen tool, shape tool, or any other tool

3. Turn the design into a brush by opening your brush panel (Windows>Brushes), create new brush

4. Choose either Art brush or Pattern Brush (based on your design)

5. Experiment with options in the Brush Options dialog box 

6. Name your brush and use the brush to demonstrate it in use on the bigger artboard to the right.

7. Repeat steps 2 - 6 for the remaining artboards (so 2 more times)

8. Please respond to this discussion post with your .AI file and .JPG file attached. 

Project #11: Gift Cards

Please design 5 different gift cards. Use the following themes:

-Child's Birthday

-Adult's Birthday

-Winter Holiday

-Thank You

-Summer Wedding


    ~What colors would you use for a child versus an adult? What type of font? Images or designs?

    ~Include a background design, the words "Gift Card", and amount

in a large creative font

    ~Design needs to use 1 or more images/symbols/text/color/texture combinations

to suggest the event. NO RASTOR IMAGES FROM THE INTERNET, all images need to be in vector format

  ~Organize your work in layer folders, 1 folder/card
