Every Tuesday a new Guild Expedition (GE) starts and lasts for 6 days. Level 1 is free to participate, Level 2 costs goods from Guild Treasury for the previous age of every player in the guild, Level 3 costs 2 times the goods from each member's current age, and Level 4 costs 4 times the goods (previous age goods x6 = current age goods cost.)
Level 5, introduced 4/4/2023, costs more than twice (2.2857 times the total goods total cost for levels 1-4) the amount of goods to open as all previous levels combined.
Because it costs goods from the Treasury every week, it is important to keep up with donations and build Treasury GB's like the Arc, Observatory, and Hydra from Titan.
The table on the right outlines the weekly goods cost from the guild treasury per player (depending on their era/age) to open GE to Level 4, and the new GE Level 5 cost per player.
EXPEDITION SCORING
The percentage of completed encounters in the competition against the other guilds is based simply on how many we each do out of 64 (16 per level through level 4,) and level 5 is a bonus level. Completing 64/80 encounters counts as 100%, but the highest possible score for any guild is 125% if everyone does 80/64.
In the event of a tie, the first guild to reach 125% wins.
I'm not recommending anyone go higher than TRIAL 5, it just unlocks permanently higher GE costs for nothing good in return (and I have 10K boosts in both red and blue, I'm still playing only trial 5 - it gives max temple fragments and diamonds, you don't need anything else.)
The NEW COST MULTIPLIER table is shown below for Trials 1-30, and the bad devil's bargain is that once you complete ANY higher trial, your cost increases to the multiplier for that Trial, FOREVER. Even if you return to lower trials or don't want to keep doing Trial 20 or Trial 30, your costs will remain 7.5X or 9.5X to any guild you join, and it follows you even if you leave your guild. This Neo-GE is a scheme designed to drain guild treasuries, nothing more.
To put this cost table into perspective, in the GE table above before Trial multipliers were added, the SASH unlock cost is 1,610 goods per person, or about 1 day's collection of a high level Arc and Obs, but at 9.5X multiplier added to those costs it would take almost 16,000 goods per person out of treasury every week; that's at least 3 days of collections for most players, even with Arc, Obs, Hydra, and special buildings like GBG Towers and Neo-Colossus making treasury goods too. GE is not the only thing that requires treasury (hello, Battlegrounds, which also received an update at the end of 2024 that increased the types of buildings available and of course the goods costs to build all of them!) so maybe it's not deserving of half the week's treasury collections to participate? Compared to QI and Battlegrounds, the rewards from GE are also the weakest.
The possible rewards from Neo-GE are not at all worth the higher costs. It takes 1200 fragments collected over 4-6 months to get a silver/gold upgrade for something that's not going to be as good as an event building 4-6 months from now, and you will have killed any guild you join with high costs forever in return. STAY ON TRIAL 5 for the 50 fragments of Forgotten Temple, and forget about the rest of the Trials.
Trial: Multiplier: Trial: Multiplier: Trial: Multiplier:
1 2.6 11 5.6 21 7.7
2 2.9 12 5.9 22 7.9
3 3.2 13 6.1 23 8.1
4 3.5 14 6.3 24 8.3
5 3.8 15 6.5 25 8.5
6 4.1 16 6.7 26 8.7
7 4.4 17 6.9 27 8.9
8 4.7 18 7.1 28 9.1
9 5.0 19 7.3 29 9.3
10 5.3 20 7.5 30 9.5
Our guild obtains guild power (crowns) for every encounter we complete, and you can see our overall progress to the next Guild Power goal at the top center of the Expedition screen. If you click that progress bar, you also get a popup screen that shows your individual progress and a second tab showing the 'leader board' with every guild member's progress in the current Expedition! The higher your age, the more power and points you generate for each encounter completed, BUT in the race for the gold trophy against the other guilds, every encounter counts the same in the percentage completed, whether you are in Iron age or Mars.
It's important that everyone participate the best they can, because no one can do your encounters for you or make up for what you don't do, unlike in other competitions like Battleground or QI nodes, missing someone out there maybe other people can step in and take up the slack.
Level 1 should be doable for anyone, even without rogues or high attack boosts. Level 2 should be considered fighting "at level" for your age, Level 3 becomes medium difficulty, and Level 4 is supposed to be hard. You can gauge your city progress and balance by how many levels of GE you can complete by fighting. If you can't fight through level 3, you need more attack boost!
There is also the Negotiation option for solving encounters if the fighting gets too tough - and a Friend's Tavern boost for a free EXTRA TURN at the negotiations in the Tavern shop (look for the pyramid icon in the general tab.) Usually, activating the 15-minute Extra Turn boost is enough to do 8 encounter attempts.
The first half of level 5 is doable with decent defense stats, with base blue stats of 726/1384 in SAJM there was no issue winning battles on level 5 until encounter 10/11 where it began to get tough. By the 12th encounter you need much higher stats, buildings or potions for more boost, or switch to negotiating. The second half of level 5 is pretty insane.
Starting from the next to last "checkpoint" for the last 5 encounters I had to build the buildings +230% to both blue stats, one time I used an infiltration building, plus drink some blue potions, plus use the Kraken, plus try more than once to win, and I made it out of the last encounter with only 2 units alive. When I was fighting the last encounter on level 5, I had 956/2174 and won, but barely. (base blue stats are 726/1384, +560 from potions and +230/+230 from the building on the encounter itself.)
Update 2024: So much blue defense boost has been released into the game, my stats are now 3778/3984% and I auto level 5 with no losses. From the time when my blue boosts got over 2000%, level 5 became easy. I haven't used any blue potions or built any buildings for encounters in months.
Update 2025: Inflation is out of control, I have more than 10,000% in blue boosts, no problems doing GE, but the new "TRIALS" nerfed the diamonds and other rewards yet again, these Trials now cost more than what you get back in return, we are staying on TRIAL 5, and only for the forgotten temple fragments.
Generally it's better to fight if you can win without losing too many troops, and save your goods for other things, or when you can't win by fighting. Use boost potions, the friends tavern attack boost, and/or time your Kraken collection right and it will help you win fights, especially on level 4.
Negotiators do score the most in Expedition, but it really doesn't matter how you complete encounters; the overall percentage and trophies is calculated from how many are complete out of how many were possible. But the "score" after each encounter is calculated minus how much damage you took, so fighters even if they lose only 1 pip of health during the fight will score slightly less than someone who negotiated. When you negotiate, you don't take any "damage" to the max value for the encounter like you can when fighting. This we figured out after much frustration over why the fighters were always ranking lower than the negotiators within the same age.
2025 Update: This GB isn't really worth it any more, I deleted mine on level 99 a few months ago. It's too big at 6x6 for what it does, and the rewards have never been updated, so they are really outdated for the game now. All of the useful items you can win from relics can also be produced in your city directly via fragments from event buildings (Store building, One up kits and Renovation kits) with the rest being junk now.
The Temple of Relics adds the RELIC HUNT ability to the Guild Expeditions, and is limited to only 2 ways to obtain blueprints: as a reward from chests opened in the Expedition or by giving to other player's Temples to obtain blueprints as rewards. It is not available from mot/pol or any other method (similar to how Observatory blueprints are limited.)
To find Relics while on the Expedition, you have to place the Temple of Relics in your city and build it up at least to level 1. Then you have to solve encounters in the Guild Expedition Map. Depending on Your Temple level, after a few encounters, some Relics will appear on the Map. You will be informed about it by the picture in the upper right corner of the screen (Relic Icon.)
The higher your Temple, the better your chance of getting better (Uncommon or Rare) relics on the map.
