All Units have Sick Leave Banks to assist members in times of crisis when they have run out of sick days. Every member donates one day upon hire. Should the bank be depleted, each member will donate an additional day. Days may be transferred between units following one forced-donation in a school year.
We STRONGLY recommend that all members have disability insurance and do not depend solely on the sick leave bank to cover extended absences.
Guidelines:
The Sick Leave Bank is for personal illness or injury, not to care for family or household members.
The Sick Leave Bank is for serious illness or injury, not to make up for sporadic minor illnesses.
You must provide medical documentation that contains a diagnosis. It does not have to be detailed, but it does need to provide a specific diagnosis for why you are unable to work.
Grants can be made for up to 30 days at a time.
If you have already run out of days, they can be credited back to you after approval.
To Apply:
Write a letter requesting the leave, including: reason, date of last sick day, number of days being requested, and expected date of return to work. (HR can help with dates if needed)
Email letter along with a letter from your doctor stating that you cannot work to Susan Soares, Membership Coordinator and Sick Leave Bank Committee Chair.
The Committee will then meet to review your request and vote on the grant of days. You will be notified immeidately following your meeting.
