TEMPORARY LEAVES
Legal Proceedings connected to employment (except if you are a grievant against the district)
Bereavement Leave: Up to 5 days for a death in your immediate family or member of household, 1 day for extended family. Up to 2 additional days may be granted for travel to out of state services.
Personal Days: Up to 2 days annually. Approval must be given for personal days abutting holidays or vacations.
Professional Development: 2 days (or more) with approval of your supervisor
MTA/NEA Conferences: 2 days with approval of superintendent
US Reserves or State Guard: Up to 10 days provided service cannot be done when school is not in session
Religious Observances: no limit, for religious observances that fall on school days
EXTENDED LEAVES
Sabbatical: Half or full year (at half salary) for study or travel. Available after 7 years employment.
MTA/NEA Leave: one year (unpaid) for serving in the state or national union
Peace Corps or Teaching Exchange: one year (unpaid)
Family Care: one year (unpaid) to care for a seriously ill family members
Political Office: up to six years to campaign and serve in an elected position in state or federal government.
Extended Medical Leave: time needed beyond available sick time, or one full year, unpaid
While on unpaid leave, employee is responsible for paying 100% of benefits. All accrued sick leave and seniority levels will be restored upon return.
