Serious Family Illness

Unit A Members are entitled to up to 15 days paid leave for "serious family illness" that is not deducted from their accrued sick time.  Unit C Members are entitled to up to 5 days.  This time is for bedside care for relatives or household members who are recovering from serious illness or injury.  It is not intended for care for those with common illnesses or minor injuries.  Educators are still required to provide sub plans for these illness days.

To access this benefit:

• Enter absent days into Frontline and choose "Serious Family Illness" as the reason

• Complete the Absence Request Form for "Serious Family Illness" and send a copy to your administrators/supervisors and to Rob Spiegel in HR

• Include medical documentation for the reason your family or household member needs care.

You may combine serious family illness days with sick days if you need additional time to assist in care.
