Babies are awesome and we are happy for you! All staff are entitled to take leave after the birth/adoption of a child. Currently Unit A and Unit C have paid parental leave benefits.
TO REQUEST LEAVE: Send an email to your administrators/supervisors noting the expected start date of your leave and when you wish to return. These dates can change- we know babies are unpredictable.
YOU SHOULD NOTE:
Leaves beyond what is guaranteed in MPLA/FMLA will be unpaid and count against your time of service (seniority and retirement). You will also have to pay 100% of your health insurance benefits during extended leave.
You may use sick days following a parental leave if you are still recovering from complications of pregnancy or childbirth. You may also request serious family illness days (Unit A) if your child needs extended medical care.
If your date of return is very close to a vacation or end of the school year, the district may ask you to delay return until a more convenient time to ease transition for students. This is unpaid but your benefits will continue.
You are expected to leave basic curriculum plans for your extended absence but not daily assignments.
You are not expected to attend any work functions, including conferences, IEP/504 meetings, or regular staff meetings during your leave.
You must give two weeks notice before beginning a parental leave, and at least two weeks notice before your expected return date if you want to extend the leave.
