The school culture is characterized by openness, fairness, trust, and mutual respect. The evaluation team acknowledges the school's efforts in successfully creating an open door policy which fosters student leadership and voice whereby students' views are valued and respected.
Opportunities exist across all areas of the school for students to enhance their leadership skills through duties and responsibilities stipulated in the student council constitution and through various external partnerships. In discussion with the domain E committee members, the evaluation team learned that various opportunities are provided for students to share their voice and develop leadership attributes through clubs, assemblies, scouts, finger print, CAS, etc.
The different formal communication channels between students and administration provided by the school ensure that the students can give input to the school regarding their learning and well-being.
74% of students and 88% of parents either agree or strongly agree that the school environment supports students’ learning and well-being.
The school’s self-reporting confirmed that there are effective and supportive structures in place to celebrate student success with appropriate cultural sensitivity.

In discussion with the Domain E committee, the evaluators noted that the school has a child protection and safeguarding policy in place which is compiled in the board policy manual and is reviewed and updated annually.
APG School conducts annual orientation sessions on child protection and safety procedures for all staff at the start of each academic year. The school has further extended child protection training to the students by inculcating a life skills curriculum that equips students with social and interpersonal skills and also enables them to cope with the demand of everyday living. The counselors have developed modules and formal learning opportunities on ADL about bullying and online safety.
Through the school tour, the evaluators observed that the school gives due regard to its buildings' layout and ensures the safety and protection of students by complying to the standards and codes and statutory requirements in Bahrain.
It was evident to the evaluation team that extensive work has been done to address the welfare of all enrolled students.

In conversations with the Domain E committee, it was noted that the school has developed various policies such as the sick child and the school clinic policies which outline the school’s procedures to meet the needs of the students.
The community survey results indicate that 82.6% of students agree that they know what to do if 'I or any of my friends experience bullying in school. In conversations with the Domain E committee, the evaluators learned that all policies and procedures are shared and available to faculty and parents, which complements the survey results of 100% of faculty being aware of the school’s policies and practices related to students’ behavior. The survey also indicated that 93.8% of the parents trust that their child is safe at school.
As noted in the school's reporting in the context of this domain, the school benefits from excellent partnership with external agencies concerned with the students' safety alongside a laudable commitment to communicating with the Ministry of Education regarding any behavioral disorders that threatens other students’ safety.

In conversations with the health and safety team, the evaluators learned that faculty are aware and have an understanding of the health, safety, and security policies and procedures which are framed according to the local regulatory requirements.
In conversations with the health and safety team, it was also learned that the school conducts regular fire drills; however, lock down drills have yet to be developed and practiced. Emergency evacuation procedures have been developed and are detailed in the school’s health and safety manual which is reviewed and updated annually.
As mentioned in the school’s reporting on this standard, the leadership team has developed a policy on critical incident management to ensure the health and safety of students, personnel, and visitors.
The survey data shows that over 74% of students felt that the school was a healthy and safe environment, over 92% of parents felt that the school provides a healthy and safe environment for their child and over 98% of faculty felt that the school provides a healthy and safe environment for all members of the school community.

In conversations with the Domain E committee, the evaluators noted that the school procedures are in place at APG School that provide for students' safety against hazards such as fire and these meet the local regulatory requirements.
The school has clear procedures in place for reporting safety concerns of students and parents. Conversations with staff confirmed understanding of these procedures as well as knowledge on where to locate them. An online communication and support facility was established to inform the whole parent body of emergency situations.
The facilities at the school provided a safe environment during the pandemic which promoted student learning and well-being.

In conversations with the Domain E committee, the evaluators noted that the school has a dedicated full-time nurse to support the students and teachers on campus. In conversations with the higher leadership team, the evaluators learned that currently the school has only one nurse managing all students as the second nurse was invited by the ministry to support the ministry during the pandemic and so she left the job. The school is now in the process of recruiting the second nurse.
In conversations with the school nurse, the evaluators learned of the high level of communication and documentation between the school nurse and local health agencies. The nurse provides timely information to every member of the school community as well as advice on medical support and services. The survey results indicate that 93% of the parents either agree or strongly agree that they are comfortable with the school’s attention to health matters.

In conversations with the Domain E committee, it was noted that APG School takes its responsibility towards the protection of its students very seriously and adopts measures that make sure that students are safe, secure, valued, respected, and listened to at all times.
The evaluation team was informed in interviews with the health and safety team that there are implemented written policies and procedures, including risk assessment, to support the health, safety, and security of students on activities outside the school, i.e. field trips as well as activities in school. AGP School has effective, well-established risk assessment protocols. Clear and comprehensive procedures are in place for emergencies when students are on and off campus.
It was also mentioned that, for a student who was unable to climb up to the fourth floor due to an injury, the class was moved down to the first floor to enable him to attend and continue his learning.
It was conveyed that every visitor who visits the school, there is a ministry approval for the purpose of the visit and the presentation to be made. Clear background checks are conducted for every visitor who visits the school along with the Ministry approval.

In discussions with the Domain E committee, the evaluators learned that the school staff supports the students in the transition between the divisions of the school, subject choices for IBDP and IGCSE and career guidance. There is no career guidance counselor to provide career guidance to students.
The higher leadership team mentioned that they are in the process of recruiting a career guidance counselor which was on hold due to the pandemic.
The IBDP and IGCSE coordinators, along with the teachers and outside agencies, work together and provide counseling and guidance to students and parents to support them in their next steps.
