End of Autumn 1237:
Arriving back at the covenant from the Thing, Orlaith goes off to Pumilius who casts the appropriate healing spell to cure her wound from teh fight with the demon.
Vincent goes to sort ot the Vis needed to
a) Pay the Weregild on the Magi who were killed by the Demon
b) Replace the demonic Vis
A grog approaches Valeri as there is a slight problem with the Beer. One barrel seems not to have started Brewing.
Valeri dilligently samples the offending barrel, and the other barrels currently being brewed.
Then for contrast he samples some of the already brewed and stored beers. With another sampple just to be sure.
The bottom of the barrel seems to have a sort of orange mass, which he pokes with a stick, but it's a bit too dark, so he spontaneously casts Lamp Without Flame to peer in.
The Spell interacts wierdly with the mass, and they start to throb in tandem to a disco beat.
An Intellego herbam spell reveals not much as it fails to penetrate,
The liquid in the barrel is fizzing and globules are being sprayed a short distance. One of them hits Vaeri and he takes a medium wound from the acid damage
So Valeri sponts a herbam ward and an aquam ward, and goes to get another beer, telling the grog to find someone sensible.
Gunther and Martin are summoned, and Orlaith wanders through as well
The orange mass is now ibit bigger and it's pseudopods are waving quite abit. The barrel is now throwing its ejecta quite fast, but it is being splashed back by the Aquam ward.
Various spells are tried without much success, whilst the fizzing dies down. Then the orange mass starts seeming through the barrel, through the (obviously inadequate) herbam ward.
Orlaith tries an aquam version of flight of the feathery body, and it is suspended in space writhing beautifully.
They discuss the Vis content, (Martin deduces that it must have a couple of pawns) and its nature (Orlaith thinks that it looks very similiar to Mother of Vinager, when Gunther decided to end the standoff with a Perdo Aquam Spell that completely obliterates the object.
Before they can recover a messanger is sent to indicate that he COvenant has visitors. Apparantly Fr Hallado (The Learned Galdraman from the incident with the Demon) and Brother Micheal (The Franciscan Friar who tended Vindsfall, thus trapping him with his True Faith) request an audience.
The purpose of their visit, is to enquire a bit more into the shipping arrangements for the wine, make sure that the trade in Vellum skins was proceeding satisfactorily.
Also they were worried that the community had grown quite a bit and would like to offer a permanent confessor, and are they sure that their tithes were up to date...?
Vincent tries as much damage limitation as possible, and shows them the set of books he keeps for just this purpose, Gunther tags along to try to figure out just how vincent is going to spin this.
Meanwhile Vaeri and Orlaith take Brother Micheal on a Tour, showing him the vinyard (COmplete with statue of St VIncent of Saragossa), the Olive grove, the Carvings of Greek and Norse Myths that Tethys made, and of Course the Tree.
They offer to take him into the tree, but at the mention of flying he demurrs. All the while they are tailed by a grog, sent by Vincent with strict instructions to relay back to him exactly what the Two magi have let slip.
At the end of the visit, the question of a preist being permanantly installed is again brought up, which Gunther rejects with vim (although not Vim).
They leave with dignity, and Vinccent and Karl point out that a dominion Aura will only appear within the sound of the bells of the church, and as long as this is controlled there is no problem with a dominion Aura swamping the local Aura. This, combined with an assurance that mind controlling whichever poor sap they send will be fine , allows Vincent to rush after the departing pair, stating that they have managed to convince Gunther to relent.
Vincent 'explains' that Gunther had thought that they were expecting a Cathedral to be established (paid for by the Magi) and was not happy about the cost implications, and that now that this had been clarified, they were all happy and eager to have a permanent confessor. Thus the guests left, perfectly mollified in every way.
In the aftermath a Redcap arrived (the last they expect before winter sets in, with a message for Valeri: He has been Summoned back to Coeris. He leave immediately with the redcap on the same vessel. He agrees to take a couple of books for the Journey, namely the Basics of Pedagogy, and (BOB has forgotten)
He and Gunther devise a complicated way of communicating using hot rocks, intagible tunnels, and CrIm spells that means that they don't risk scrying on third parties.
