(Winter 1221 - Summer 1222)
The Vis sources were investigated more fully, and the Rego (summer) source seems only to give 5 per year, and the (winter) source turned out to be a river of Vim which gave 4 pawns.
Coincidently the tax for being a voting member of the Hreppar was 3 pawns per magus....
For the first meet only Valeri paid the tax, and he began schmoozing the representatives. The case up for perusal was between the Northern and Southern schooled Galdramen ( a type of magician that the two bishoprics were trying to emulate)
The northen church school was charged by the southern school, with stealling ond , and had counter sued a charge of abandonment of ond sources. The 36 judges thought long and hard and came down on the side of the southern school. (Valeri then gave the sothern delagates a thumbs up for all to see).
Pumilius was in attendance, but, not speaking west norse, could only speak with the churchmen - who were none to kee to speak with him (on account of his Blatant Gift he presumed). Luckily his Venditor , Vincent of Berwick, was on hand, who selflessly devoted himself as his masters translator, so necessary did he turn out to be, that he wangled himself carte blanche to turn up to all meetings as his Master's representative.
Vincent was utterly charming to the representatives and forged close bonds with
Helga Grimsdottir:
represensts the seithkona (an all female tradition). she was trying (yet again) to get votes to be used by proxies if the members were not able to attend in person, but this failed.
Vincent thought she was nice, but lonely
FatherHalldor Ormsson:
Represnting the Northen Schooled galdramen
Vincent's opinions:Pragmatic and cynical
Father Vebrand Thoroddson:
Representing the Southern Schooled galdramen
Vincent's opinions: Pious and kind.
Valeri discovered that there was a small scriptorium at skaholt attached to the southern cathedral (an enormous building made of wood!!! and almost 50 paces long!!!) He obtained an invitation to reside there for a while.
Asking about anyone who might have a grudge againt Pan Caudrax, Vifil told the Magi about the sinking of the Heimdall in 1208. It had set sail from Bergen, but other than that not much was known. It was agreed that next Spring Vincent would go and investigate in Bergen, and also investigate setting up some Vis trading networks. It was mooted that Martin could distill some Vis for the Thing Taxes.
