Summer 1236
After a 4 month break in play a lot of the session was taken up with "what the hell were we doing". The players pointed out that in the gap between returning from Durenmar and getting the letter about the impending crusade, there was another mid-summer when they could try and track down Einar Gammlisson. For the first time in ages we had all players present, and so the Magi could be deployed in force. Pumillius, being the only Magus without semi-fast travel stayed at Aoide with a map Gunther leapt off to Þingvellir when the pinging device went ping (it took both of the twice per day uses to narrow him down to Þingvellir).
Meanwhile Valeri and Orlaith strode over the bay to reach them while Martin flew. Upon reaching solid land, Valeri succumbed to his magic addiction and collapsed into a heap on the floor. Gunther asked Vifil if anyone had seen Einar recently and he (Vifil) said that he hadn't. Vifil was quite distracted as he kept being petitioned by the seithkona (see session 6) about proxy voting being allowed, and withdrew. Gunther and Orlaith then wandered round talking to the new attendants, but didn't find any leads. The Cats had put on an opera, and were sponsoring a poetry prize.
Meanwhile, back at the bat cave...
A random peasant that Pumillius didn't recognize was ushered into his presence. Apparently the surrounding lands were to be menaced by a swarm of dragons, and the peasant politely requested what the Magi were going to do about it. After further interrogation it seems that a man called Einar Gammlisson, had swept in and recruited some of the local lads to help destroy some eggs nearby...
With a sinking heart Pumiliius realized that no-one was at the eggs...
He left a note on the Council chamber table, and summoned all the grogs, and started to march on the mud pools
When he arrived he discovered the locals assembling a primitive pile driver over the pool. He asked them to desist and when they did not destroyed it with a pilum of fire.
Orlaith then turned up and started to ask what was going on, when Pumiliius spotted a large bird descending...
Pan Caudrax Arrived and politely asked what was going on.
Pumillius besought permission of Pan Caudrax to transfer the eggs to the recently created mud baths in Aoide, for greater safety. The dragon probed the motivation, and Orlaith freely volunteered the recent attack. Pan Caudrax was slightly miffed at the suggestion, and let slip that the site had been chosen by his mate, and that was that.
Orlaith explained that they had tracked Einar Gammlisson every Midsummer but did not know where he was hinding in the interim. He only seemed to be detectable on the three days around mid-summer. The most noble dragon then informed them that the suspect was probably hiding in the Glittering Plains. A regio only accessible on those three days from a Caldera near the centre of the island.
Play stopped there with the campaign at EDIT:SUMMER 1236
A Slight wrinkle in time was caused by the GM not being able to tell the time. All of these event occurred in 1237 as he magi were not in Iceland during the summer of 1236, they were in Durenmar.
EDIT: No They didn't: Thus the Magi did know of the summons in two years time to attend the crusade.
EDIT THIS IS STILL TRUE Also last entry has been edited to show that the Crusade is nominally against the Order of Odin, an Hermetic bogeyman which has never been seen in practice. The Message clearly states that the Novgorod tribunal considers the galdramen and the Order of Odin to be one and the same.
Gunther experiments in some seasons and has side effects on his Seven league stride, and an odd effect for Peering into the Mortal mind.
The side effect for Seven league stride is that the target is suffused with a feeling of calm after casting, and it takes a Presence +Concentration check ease factor 6 to perform any violent or hostile action in the round immediately after arriving. (Defensive spells, recasting of Seven league stride etc are all fine). For this round only they get a +2 bonus to their Magic resistance on all Mentem spells.
The Peering into the mortal mind gives Gunter (6-a simple die warping points : min 0) 6 point towards his goal of integrating Deft Mentem, and a story hook for the GM
