(Spring 1220)
Our three Brave Magi are invited to Join the Maga Tethys in founding a Covenant in the far north. She informs them that she wishes somewhere away from the politics that have infested her Covenant (Val Nastium) since it became the Domus Magna of House Jerbiton in 1205. Corresponding, they agree to meet her at the Covenant of Wormhout (located near De Panne, on the north French Coast in the Normandy Tribunal).
The instructions guide them to an abandoned estate a few miles from the town proper. Martin is the first to arrive, and is met by both the senechal - Liana - and suspicion. Overcomming her natural distrust for this dishevelled stranger, she guides him into the first level or a Regio. Once inside the manor house is clearly restored to it's former glory. Liana informs Martin that, as an honoured guest, he has the run of the manor house, and guides him to some quarters where he can rest.
Next to arrive is Pumilius, accompanied by a shield grog. He immediately starts asking questions abuot the layout and members of the covenant. Liana demurs, and leads him to a reception room, where there is refreshment.
Finally Valeri Petrov arrives in a very confused state. After a confused conversation, Liana is convinced that he is the last magus that they were expecting, and conducts him to the reception room to join Pumilius.
Martin is asked to join them, and they spend a few awkward minutes discovering exactly what they have in common (not much....). Then Cornelius ex Verditius joins them, and discusses Pumilius's efforts in the last grand contest at Verdi, Pumilius manages to hide the fact that his creation was only claimed by his parens as an act of pity. Cornelius brags that his research is into making thinking automata, but luckily the conversation moves on before it is discovered just how little progress he has made.
Two of the remaining three members then join the party, Vera ex Bonisagus and Iphimedeia ex Guernicus, who give apologies on behalf of the fourth member, Markus ex Verditius, who is working on something or other. Pumilius, delighted to find a Bonsagus, attempts to discuss magic theory with her, only to discover that she is a follower of Trianoma. In fact it emerges that Vera and Iphimedeia are a team to be reckoned with in th eNormany Tribunal, specializing in Intellego magics and the hunting down of Magi who have transgressed the code. The guests ask their hosts what they know of Tethys, and they repeat that she is a well respected artist, who they have had freindly contact with in the past, but she doen't seem to be bosom buddies with either of them. She seems well enough liked that the covenant has agreed to let her hire one of their ships for the journey
The next morning, Martin is eager to leave the regio, and askes the covenfolk to find him when Tethys arrives. He spends the morning hunting, and is just dismembering a rabbit when the call comes that she has arrived. Dragging the carcas with him, he discovers Pumilius greeting a very old lady dismounting from a well stocked cart. Pumilius is agitated, and excited to discover what provisions she has acquired for the new covenant. He is stricken that there will be no equipment for laboratories (she will summon her old laboratory to the new site via a spell) because of the risk of transporting glassware over very rough seas. She readily agress to allow him all access to covenant funds to deal with the lack, and he immediately starts composing a list and ignores everyone else. Upon greeting Valeri, a strange loop is started as neither is quite focussed on what the other is saying. Eventually they seem to discover that they are who they think they are, but the onlookers are less sure.
At dinner that night Tethys treats them to a poem on the subject of the Muses, although there only seemed to be three (Aoide, Melete and Mneme) rather than the usual nine.
The next day they set sail on the {\it White Ship} Captained by Magnus Atterday. Ther is a brief struggle when the goat does not want to board, but Valeri persuades it that everything will be OK. The dine on ship, and have another plesant meal distracted only by flies.
On the second night whilest at dinner, the magi notice that it has become very cold. So cold in fact that what they had taken to be Tethys's slumber was instead frozen immobility. They race to the deck and discover the ship frozen to the spot. Above is a cavern of Ice. After a second they notice that the goat has escaped. Valeri starts looking for tracks, and Matrin casts True Sight of the Air. Together they locate her licking what appears to be an Ice giant.
The Giant is, with glacial slowness smashing small ice ships, two have been smashed,a nd seven remain. However the goat seems to be dissolving the Giant. Unsure what to do they seem to be on the verge of letting the scene play out.
At that point the fly transforms into a falcon, scaring the goat away. With a cry (in german) directed at Martin, to the effect that he would not allow this to start up again, he chases after the goat.
Pumilius starts casting Pilum of Fire at the Giant, an although this seems to damage him, it causes icequakes, that topple the poor dwarf over.
While Martin keeps the falcoln off balance with Broom of the Winds, Valeri manages to convince the goat Auðhumla that it's safe to back to the delicious saltiness of the giant.
The Falcoln is eventually felled by Martin throwing his Hammer, which knocks him back into human form before returning to Martin's waiting hand. Pumilius recognises the setup as something to do with the Norse creation myth, and Martin confirms this connection by identifying their stricken foe as Loki.
Auðhumla return to licking the giant, and very quickly he is reduced to a shining heart. Before anyone can grab it Auðhumla swallows it, resulting in the the world falling to pieces. Shocked by the sudden change, the goat defecates, and the stool grows until it stretches to the horizon....
The Magi find themselves on a valley with proper stars above. The gound seems like it would be fertile, but strangely there is no vegetation. There is no sight of the sea, however the Ship is nestling neatly a few hundred yards away. They find that the crew is gradually comming round, but Tethys is already about and moving. She confirms Pumilis's interpretation, and is very annoyed. The crossing into Faerie (Elysium) was planned so that the Covenant would be blessed by the three Muses. She had hoped to set up an artistic endevour with their blessing but it seemed to have been hijacked.
Now they just have to deal with the Captain.
