1.3 Classroom Management
Classroom management at UNP Labschool focuses on creating a respectful and supportive environment for all students. Teachers implement the following strategies:
- Setting Clear Expectations : At the beginning of the school year, teachers establish classroom rules and expectations for behavior. These guidelines are discussed with students, so everyone understands the importance of respect, participation, and attentiveness.
- Positive Reinforcement : Teachers often use positive reinforcement, such as praise, rewards, or recognition, to encourage good behavior. This approach helps motivate students to follow rules and engage actively in class.
- Managing Disruptions : Teachers handle disruptions calmly and firmly by addressing issues immediately without interrupting the lesson flow. If a student is consistently disruptive, the teacher may have a private conversation with them to understand the underlying cause and find a solution.
- Engaging Lessons : By using interactive and varied teaching methods, teachers keep students engaged, reducing the likelihood of behavioral issues. Engaging lessons help students stay focused and participate actively, creating a positive learning environment.
- Seating Arrangements : Teachers may adjust seating arrangements to support learning and manage behavior effectively. For instance, students who are easily distracted may be seated closer to the front, while group work seating arrangements encourage collaboration.
