1.1 Teaching Methods
During my observation of an English class taught by Ma'am Rose Jane Comilang for 7th grade students, I noted the effective learning strategies she implemented. The lesson began with a moment of reflection, followed by an engaging icebreaker activity related to the day’s topic. Ma'am Rose involved the students in a fun tongue twister exercise, encouraging each of them to demonstrate their skills in front of the class. This activity not only invigorated and motivated the students but also fostered a welcoming and enthusiastic environment for the rest of the session. Following this, Ma'am Rose introduced the lesson topic and outlined the learning objectives clearly. She guided a meaningful discussion, frequently asking students to provide examples and contribute their insights. After the discussion, she conducted a short quiz to assess the students’ understanding of the material.
Unp Labschool employs a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and to ensure student engagement. The main approaches observed include :
Direct Instruction :
Teachers frequently use direct instruction, particularly for foundational subjects like mathematics and science. This method involves step-by-step explanations and demonstrations, often supported by visuals on projectors or on the blackboard.
Interactive Learning :
Group discussions and pair work are common, promoting student interaction and critical thinking. This method is effective in language and social studies classes, where students learn to express their ideas and build communication skills.
Project-Based Learning :
In certain subjects, students are encouraged to complete projects that require research, creativity, and practical application of knowledge. This hands-on approach helps students develop problem-solving skills and apply their learning in real-world contexts.
Blended Learning :
The integration of both online resources and face-to-face teaching enriches the learning experience. Teachers incorporate multimedia elements like videos, quizzes, and presentations, balancing traditional teaching with digital tools.
