1.6 Suggestion for Future Improvement
While the practicum was highly beneficial, some areas could be improved for future participants:
- Enhanced Language Support : Providing basic language training or a translator for certain classes would help participants communicate more effectively with students and fully understand the cultural nuances of the classroom.
- More Resource Availability : Ensuring that each classroom has access to multimedia tools like projectors would allow participants to diversify their teaching methods and provide a more engaging learning experience.
- Extended Observation Period : Allowing for a longer observation period at the beginning of the practicum could give participants more time to understand classroom dynamics and student needs before teaching independently.
- Cultural Orientation : Offering a brief cultural orientation about Filipino classroom etiquette, student behavior, and local customs before the practicum begins could help participants adapt more smoothly to the classroom environment.
- Increased Feedback Sessions : Providing more regular feedback sessions with mentor teachers throughout the practicum would allow participants to make continuous improvements and address challenges more effectively.
These suggestions could help future participants have an even more effective and rewarding experience. The SEA Teacher program is an invaluable opportunity for pre-service teachers, and with a few enhancements, it can continue to produce globally skilled and culturally aware educators.
