Hello! I’m Anissa Eka Meilani, a student at University Muhammadiyah of Surakarta. I’m majoring in education and constantly working on improving my skills in teaching, leadership, and communication. I’m passionate about helping others learn and grow, and I love being involved in activities that challenge me to step up and make a difference.
With a strong background in Arabic and English, I’ve been able to explore various opportunities in education. One of my favorite experiences was working at Permata Insani Integrated Islamic Primary School in Klaten. There, I served as an assistant homeroom teacher and taught Arabic, Quran Hadith, and Akidah Akhlaq. Teaching these subjects has taught me the importance of patience, empathy, and building strong relationships with students. Watching students learn and understand new concepts is truly rewarding for me.
I’m also involved in several organizations. At my boarding school, Ta’mirul Islam, I was part of OSIS, where I helped organize events and learned a lot about teamwork and leadership. At UMS, I joined EDSO (the English Education Student Organization), IMM (the Muhammadiyah Student Association), and MAPALA (Student Nature Lovers), each of which taught me new skills and helped me meet so many inspiring people. Currently, I’m mentoring in the AIK FKIP program, where I guide junior students in understanding Islamic values and principles.
One of the highlights of my journey so far was participating in the Sea Teacher program, where I traveled to the Philippines to gain teaching experience in an international setting. This was a valuable opportunity for cultural exchange, and it taught me to be adaptable and open-minded. I learned that even small interactions can build bridges between cultures and that there’s so much we can learn from each other.
I’m always excited to connect with others, especially those who share my interests in education and cross-cultural experiences. Here’s how you can reach me:

The SEA Teacher Project, or the "Southeast Asian Teacher Project," is a collaborative initiative of SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization) that allows student teachers from various Southeast Asian countries to gain teaching experience in a different cultural context. In Batch 10 of this program, students were given the unique opportunity to teach at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), located in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.
During this program, participants were immersed in the Philippine education system, gaining hands-on experience in classroom teaching across various levels at UNP Laboratory School. They engaged in teaching activities for preschool, elementary, junior high, and senior high school students, implementing the K-12 curriculum under the guidance of mentor teachers.
In addition to teaching, SEA Teacher participants observed classroom activities, prepared lesson plans, and used a variety of teaching aids and strategies, like multimedia presentations and collaborative group work, to enhance student engagement. The program also provided them with opportunities to learn about Filipino culture and values through interactions with students and teachers and explore the city of Vigan, known for its rich history and UNESCO heritage sites.
The SEA Teacher Batch 10 experience at UNP enabled participants to develop their teaching skills, adapt to a new academic environment, and foster cross-cultural understanding, making it a valuable step toward becoming globally competent educators. The collaboration fostered between Southeast Asian countries through this program continues to strengthen educational and cultural ties in the region.
