Three Acts of a Masjid is a six-channel video installation composed of more than two hundred short, vertical-format videos gathered from public online sources- fragments created in the languages of stories, reels, and TikToks. Through this multiplicity of perspectives, the work forms a living archive of the mosque as a site of construction and destruction, preservation and devotion, vulnerability and control.

Each channel carries its own rhythm yet remains porous to the others; the sounds overlap, bleed, and blur-  the call to prayer merging with the crash of debris, the noise of crowds folding into murmurs of remembrance. Together they create an acoustic field where faith, conflict, and endurance coexist, often uneasily.

The six screens unfold across three conceptual “acts.”
Destruction confronts the visible and invisible forces that erase or damage- through war, redevelopment, ideology, or neglect- the sacred spaces that have shaped collective memory.
Preservation focuses on mosques that have survived across centuries, maintained through care, restoration, and expansion. These sites stand as testaments to continuity- structures that evolve yet retain the essence of their origin and purpose.
Protection turns to the present, where individuals and communities continue to defend what remains, through protest, prayer, and documentation- gestures of guardianship that extend beyond walls.

The collected footage spans diverse geographies and emotional registers- from historic centers of worship to local neighborhood mosques, each revealing a fragment of the shared condition of faith and fragility. Drawn from both user-generated material and news sources, Three Acts of a Masjid resists official narratives and reclaims the mosque from monumental distance, returning it to the immediacy of lived experience.

The work reflects on the endurance of sacred space amid forces of erasure and change. It situates the masjid as both architecture and witness- a vessel of memory, resilience, and renewal- and a reminder of the tension between what is built, what is lost, and what continues to be protected.

ആറു ചാനൽ വീഡിയോകളിലൂടെ റാമി ഫാറൂക്ക് സൃഷ്ടിച്ച ഈ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാപനം, ഇരുനൂറ് ഷോട്ടുകളും ഓൺലൈൻ പൊതുവിടങ്ങളിൽനിന്നുള്ള വീഡിയോകളും കഥ, റീൽ, ടിക് ടോക്ക് എന്നിവയുടെ ദൃശ്യഭാഷയിലുള്ള ക്ലിപ്പുകളും കൊണ്ടു ചിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയതാണ്. കർതൃത്വത്തിൻ്റെ പലമയിലൂടെ ഈ രചന, കെട്ടിയുയർത്തൽ-പൊളിഞ്ഞുവീഴൽ വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങളുടെയും ആരാധന-പരിപാലന ധർമ്മങ്ങളുടെയും വിധേയത്വ-മേധാവിത്വ ദ്വന്ദങ്ങളുടെയും ഭൂമികയെന്ന നിലയിലുള്ള മസ്ജിദിൻ്റെ ജീവസ്പന്ദിയായ ആർക്കൈവുകൾ ചേർത്തുവയ്ക്കുന്നു. തനതായ സ്വതന്ത്രലയമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഓരോ ചാനലും മറ്റുള്ളവയിലേക്ക് തുറവി സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നവയാണ് : ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ തമ്മിലിടയുകയും ഫ്രെയിമുകളിലുടനീളം പടരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു; ബാങ്കുവിളി കെട്ടിടാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളിടിഞ്ഞുവീഴുന്ന ഒച്ചകളിൽ പിണയുന്നു; ആൾക്കൂട്ടാരവങ്ങൾ പിറുപിറുപ്പോർമ്മകളിൽ വിലയിക്കുന്നു.

ചരിത്രപരമായ ആരാധനാകേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ മുതൽ തൊട്ടയൽപക്കത്തെ പള്ളികൾ വരെയെത്തുന്ന വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന ഭൂപ്രദേശങ്ങളെയും വൈകാരികവിതാനങ്ങളെയും ഉൾക്കൊണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് ഈ ദൃശ്യസഞ്ചയം, വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെയും വഴങ്ങലിൻ്റെയും സംഘാനുഭവശകലങ്ങൾ വിനിമയം ചെയ്യുന്നു. മസ്ജിദുകളെ ഒരേസമയം വാസ്തുവും സാക്ഷിയുമായി – സ്മരണയുടെ, സംയമത്തിൻ്റെ, നിരന്തരപുനരുജ്ജീവനത്തിൻ്റെ യാനപാത്രമായി -  സ്ഥാനപ്പെടുത്തുകയും, അതിലൂടെ, തുടച്ചുമാറ്റലിനും രൂപാന്തങ്ങൾക്കും വിധേയമാവുമ്പോൾ പോലും ആ പവിത്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങൾ പുലർത്തിവരുന്ന സഹിഷ്ണുതയിലേക്ക് വെളിച്ചംവീശുകയു ചെയ്യുന്നു ഈ രചന.
