President's Message

Well it's back to business for us Altrusans. The two months with no business has passed. I hope you all were able to have some vacation this summer.

We're looking forward to our Fall Workshop, Saturday October 22nd. It is virtual and more information will be available soon.

I have some exciting news! We have the potential to have three new members very soon. Make sure you attend our September 19th meeting for more information from Marcy Royal, our Membership Chair.

See you then!

Greetings Altrusans!

I hope this message finds you all doing well. September is here and marks the beginning of pumpkin spice, autumn leaves, and cooler nights! Well, I have tasted some pumpkin spice, smelled my autumn leaves candle, but the cooler nights have yet to show up! I am certain Fall is right around the corner. I always look forward to September; to dust off all my sweaters and warm socks, and prepare for my favorite time of year! Most importantly, school is back in session and we can start counting down the days until Thanksgiving and Winter Break!

As Altrusans, September holds a date of much importance. September 21st marks the International Day of Peace. This year’s theme arrives with perfect timing, considering the unrest that remains in our country, as well as, other countries around the world. The title of the theme is “End Racism, Build Peace”. The International Day Of Peace was established in 1981 to show unity and empathy to all cultures around the globe. Please see the link below for more information:

Please enjoy this beautiful month and I look forward to seeing all of you soon.

All the Best,

Tracey

SOCTOBER IS COMING!

The month of October our club will be participating in a campaign to collect socks for our local homeless population. Soctober is a nationwide effort to collect and donate new socks to those in need. Our efforts will benefit Stand Up For Kids Hampton Roads, an organization that supports unsheltered and runaway youth.

Members are encouraged to reach out to their friends, neighbors, local churches, work associates, etc to garner contributors to our campaign.

Nicole Pixler, Executive Director of Stand Up For Kids will be our guest speaker at our October meeting and will receive our donated items. Those items donated after our meeting will be picked up by members of the service team and brought to Stand Up For Kids. If anyone cares to make other donations, the organization also needs new men’s knit boxer briefs and young women's panties.

So let’s get busy and make this an awesome campaign!

June and Ellen asked for new socks from their sorority sisters! These have already showed up!

International Project Update: Barbara Speight provided an update at the May meeting. Schools in the Philippines are opening up slowly, at half-time. We will be moving forward soon on the final part of this project.

Reminder! Club 21 dues must to be paid online. Use this link to update your personal Club 21 dues to support International Foundation.

Sherral and Kenneth vacationed in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a week, then spent the next week in Jacksonville, Florida visiting daughter Kendra and family.

Barbara and Don enjoyed time with Lucy and celebrating her first birthday in Sonoma.

James Warwick Jones took this photo of Judy at the opening of Glen McClure’s Spotlight 100 Exhibition at Gallery 21 Saturday, Aug.27. She was one of Glen’s 100 subjects for his yearlong project involving using old- fashioned tungsten spotlighting and included a short biographical sketch introducing each of the subjects.
