Board Actions/Information from the February 2022 Board Meeting
Tracey Garbers agreed to research the availability of Gus and George's Spaghetti and Steakhouse restaurant for a meeting place if the club wants to meet there in March. The board did not vote to meet there in March; we wanted the club to have an option.
Some award submissions have been assigned.
Linda Dorr, our District Two Governor-Elect, will be visiting our February meeting via Zoom.

Greetings Altrusans!
I hope all is well and you are enjoying your February. With these shorter, winter days I have enjoyed the “short” stay of some snow flurries and the welcome warmth of the returning sunshine! I do love the seasons, but February has always been the month when I can’t help longing for Spring! I am ready for tulips and daffodils!
Many of our members are enjoying their retirement and I am looking forward to those days in the “not so far” future! I must say, I have been blessed with many opportunities to change careers, move across the country, and watch my family thrive! The workforce, in my experience, has been a place of professional and personal growth; this is something that must always be protected. February 20th marks World Day of Social Justice. The theme this year is “Achieving Social Justice through Formal Employment”. The focus will be on the formalization of employment as a prerequisite for reducing poverty and inequality. The event will be held virtually. For more information, please click here.
The month of February has been remembered as Black History Month for over 45 years. President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” The Black History Month 2022 theme, “Black Health and Wellness,” explores "the legacy of not only Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine, but also other ways of knowing (e.g., birthworkers, doulas, midwives, naturopaths, herbalists, etc.) throughout the African Diaspora. The 2022 theme considers activities, rituals and initiatives that Black communities have done to be well." As a club consisting of many talented women, we recognized the beauty, intelligence, and grace of all people; this is just one of the many reasons I am proud to be an Altrusan!
Please have a pleasant February and I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Warm Regards,
Tracey
