LAST WILL OF THOMAS SALE

I, Thomas Sale, of the County of Amherst, being weak of body but in perfect state of mind, do make this my last will and testament:

Item: I leave to my well beloved wife Clary Sale, the whole of my estate during her life and widowhood, both real and personal except one negro girl and her increase, which I leave to my daughter Peggy Alsop. To my daughter Frances Sale I bequeath negro boy Harry. Should my said daughter Frances die without heirs, said above slave to be sold and the money divided between my two daughters Betsy and Polly Sale.

Item: I give to my daughter Polly Sale, one negro girl named Esther and her increase, with one bed and furniture for same.

Item: I give to my grandsons James Sale and Reuben Sale and my grand daughter Betsy Sale, negro slaves.

Item: It is my will and desire that after the death of my wife the whole of my estate and personals not willed away be valued by disinterested persons, and I do will my sons John Sale, Thomas Sale, Wm. Sale and Benjamin Sale the whole of the estate above mentioned on condition that they shall pay their brother Anthony Sale the sum of sixty pounds cash in a reasonable time, otherwise the said Anthony Sale shall be entitled to one-fifth part of said estate.

My will is further that my said sons John and Thomas, Wm. and Benjamin Sale shall divide equally the said estate and be equally bound to their brother Anthony Sale.

Sealed with my seal and dated the first day of July 1797.
