IN MEMORANDUM, Poem by Inez Wells, 1919

Come listen to my story, I am now going to tell,

It is of my own dear Father, Whose name was J. C. Wells.

It was in Arkansas, At a little station called Bay,

Where Papa told us all, That he was going home to stay.

It was in nineteen hundred and nineteen, The ninth day of June,

That he told us he was going, To live with Jesus soon.

He said, "Dear wife and children, meet me, On that celestial shore,

Where we will live forever, And never part no more".

Before he died he spoke in tongues, As Acts 2 and four,

He said, "Jesus is coming soon, The time is at the door".

Then stretching forth his hand, he cried: "Dear Lord, I'm coming soon",

Before these words were hardly spoke, He had started home.

They took him to the cemetery, Placed him beneath the sod;

But 'twas only his body, His spirit had gone to God.

If we live as he lived, Claim His God for our own,

Someday we'll live with papa, Around that Great White Throne.

Written by his daughter, Inez Wells, Delaplaine, Ark.

Poem by Pat Wells, date unknown

When winter is over and there will come spring, The flowers will bloom and the birds will sing,

Then all of the young people will hear the love bells ring.

While the old man will set around with a gleam in his eye, just watching the young girls go by,

And the old ladies with their red dishpan hands will be setting around, thinking about when they

were sixteen and hunting her a man.

But when summer gets here and the weather gets hot, you won't care if you are young or not,

All you will think about is a big glass of lemonade, and find you a cool place somewhere in the shade.

Then it will come fall and you will hear the whistling of the wind,

Then you will know winter is about here again.

I think the seasons rotate for just one cause,

So the children can watch for old Santa Clause.

This is one of several poems found in my Mother, Mae Morgan's personal papers after she died.
