Levi Jackson Alsup, 62, 1679 Webster Lane, Des Plaines, IL, died at 2:45 a.m., Monday, Sept. 9, 1963 in the Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL.

Mr. Alsup was born Feb. 6, 1901, near Hayti, MO, the son of Elijah and Sidney Louella (Medlock) Alsup. He was married Oct. 11, 1920 in Pemiscot County, MO, to Miss Edna Beaury. In June of 1956, he and his wife came to Des Plaines to make their home. He was employed at Benjamin Electric and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his widow, Edna Alsup of Des Plaines, IL; nine children, Wilber Alsup of Des Plaines, IL, Warren Alsup of Arlington Heights, IL, Wayne Alsup of Clarendon Hills, IL, Richard Alsup of Prospect Heights, IL, Mrs. Troy (Norma) Poplin of Bensenville, IL, Mrs. Bobby (Margaret) Vickery of Des Plaines, IL, Mrs. James (Eva) Bowling of Blytheville, AR, Mrs. Scott (Luella) Colbenson of Holcombe, WI, and Ernest Alsup of Palatine, IL; seven brothers and sisters, Mrs. Martha Cloninger of Advance, MO, Mrs. Sally McClanahan and Mrs. Nettie Portis, both of Hayti, MO, Howard Alsup of Barnhart, MO, Willie Alsup and Albert Alsup, both of Benton Harbor, MI, and Joseph Alsup of Memphis, TN; and 33 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Edith Juanita Alsup; one brother, John Nolin Alsup, one sister, Ivy Mae Murphy and a grandson, Stephen Dale Alsup.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1963 at the Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines, with Rev. Charles Hampton officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, IL.

Edna L. Alsup, 78, of 6707 Minnesota Ave, St. Louis, a mother of several Northwest suburban residents, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, 1981 in the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Mrs. Alsup was born Feb. 1, 1903 in St. Louis, the daughter of Clarence Elonzo M. and Georgia Ann (Scott) Beaury. She was united in marriage on Oct. 11, 1920 at Caruthersville, MO to Levi Jackson "Jack" Alsup, who preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1963. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Des Plaines. Late in her life she went to St. Louis to live with her son, Wilber.

Survivors include five sons, Wilber Jackson Alsup of St. Louis, MO, James Warren Alsup of Arlington Heights, IL, Jesse Wayne Alsup of Darien, IL, Richard Earl Alsup of Los Angles, CA, and Ernest Alsup of Hoffman Estates, IL; three daughters, Mrs. Troy (Norma) Poplin of Carpentersville, IL, Mrs. Bobby (Margaret) Vickery of Des Plaines, IL, and Mrs. James (Eva) Bowling of Blytheville, AR; two brothers, Esper Beaury of Gallup, NM, and Thomas Beaury of Los Angles, CA; 36 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Edith Alsup and Luella Colbenson, a brother, Ovle Beaury and a half-brother, Elbridge G. Scott, and one grandson, Stephen Alsup.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Oehler Funeral Home, Lee and Perry Streets, Des Plaines, with Rev. L. G. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9:30 p.m. today.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, but was turned down from service in World War 11 because of a hernia. He was twice called up and taken to Little Rock, Arkansas for examination where he was rejected because of the hernia. On March 6, 1950 after he was married, he and his wife and small son Michael relocated from Arkansas to Arlington Heights, Cook County, Illinois where they remained until December 1988 when he retired from a Suburban Bus Company after 28 years of service. He and his wife Reba then moved to Monument, CO, after living in the same house in Arlington Heights, IL. for over 30 years. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 22, 1998.

A beautiful wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morgan of Walnut Ridge, Route 1, last Sunday afternoon August 22, at 4:15 o'clock when their daughter Reba became the bride of Rev. Warren Alsup, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Alsup of Blytheville, Arkansas.

Miss Patsy Wells, cousin of the bride acted as bridesmaid and the bridegroom's brother, Wilbur Alsup, was best man. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Lanny McReynolds, of Southern Baptist College. The bride wore a smart moon grey dress with black accessories.

Mr. Alsup is a student in Southern Baptist college and his bride attends Delaplaine high school. The ceremony was attended by about 100 relatives and friends.

Amma Hatfield Barnes, 92 of Kimper, died Monday, Jan 11, 1999, in the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born June 13, 1906, a daughter of the late Anderson and Elithy Miller New. She was a home maker and a member of the Majestic Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by three sons, Anderson Fuller, Hence Fuller and Oscar Fuller. She is survived by her husband, John H. Barnes; one daughter, Rose Alsup of Lake Station, Ind.; one adopted daughter, Louise Sikora of Fairfax, VA. 12 grandchildren and several great-grand children and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 0.m. Thursday, Jan 14, in the Majestic Church with Kenis Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Frank Robinette Cemetery at Stopover. Arrangements are under the direction of Justice Funeral Services-Pike County Chapel of Zebulon. DES PLAINES CEREMONY UNITES YOUNG COUPLE

A pretty wedding was solemnized January 15, 1949, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bible Faith Church, Des Plaines, when Lois Franzen, youngest daughter of Mrs. Rose Franzen of North York Road, Bensenville, Illinois, became the bride of Richard Alsup, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Alsup, Blytheville, Arkansas. Pastor Robert Gibbs of the Bensenville Bible Church performed the candle-light ceremony. The wedding music was played by Miss Joan Aherns and Mrs. Willie Mae Kuecher sang intermittently, "Saviour Like a Shepherd Lead Me", "Because", and "I Love You Truly." The church aisle was strewn with rose petals by little Karen Kehoe, while the bride entered the church with her uncle, W. Ernsting, who gave her in marriage. The bride had a floor length gown of white slipper satin with long train. The neck of the gown was inset with lace and the wide peplum was tied with a bow in the back. The long sleeves came to points over the wrists. Her finger tip veil was held by a crown and she carried a bouquet of carnations and roses. The bride's matron of honor was her sister, Mrs. Marjorie Schulz, who wore a gown of lavender moire taffeta with wide peplum tied with a bow in back matching gloves of the same material. She carried a colonial bouquet of carnations. The bridesmaids were Jeannine Babcock, and Mrs. Wayne Alsup, who wore similar costumes in Old Rose, and Corinne McMahon and Marjorie Dieffenbach, whose costumes were aqua. The groom was attended by his brother, Wayne, and the guests were ushered by Frank Gillett, Glenn Helms, Gerald Hampton and Robert Peck. After the ceremony a reception for friends and relatives was held in the church basement. Mrs. Oliver Franzen cut the three tier wedding cake and during the course of the evening the bride and the groom presented Mrs. Albert Franzen with a lighted birthday cake, it being her birthday. The groom was inducted in the Air Corps January 21, and is now stationed in Kentucky. The bride is an employee at the Zenith Radio Corp.

Two former residents, Margaret Alsup and Lemon Shea, now of Des Plaines, Ill., were united in marriage Sunday at the home of Miss Alsup's brother, the Rev. Warren Alsup in Des Plaines. Miss Alsup is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Alsup of Blytheville and Mr. Shea is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Shea of Des Plaines, formerly of Blytheville.

Mrs. Bob Ballou of Des Plaines wearing a blue ballerina length formal and corsage of roses, served as matron of honor. Miss Alsup wore for her marriage a yellow ballerina length formal and double orchid corsage. Bob Ballou served as best man. Following the wedding, the couple left for Blytheville for their honeymoon and are now visiting relatives here.

Dennis Alsup, 49, of Newbern, died Friday June 3, 2005, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Hogue and the Rev. Brian Gilliam Officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. The family will recieve visitors at 6-9 p.m. on Tueday at the funeral home. Mr. Alsup, the husband of Lydia Alsup, also leaves three daughters, Wendy Semarau of Woodridge, IL, and Amber Alsup and Lindsey Alsup, both of Newbern; a son Jesse McDowell of Wheeling, IL; his father, Wayne Alsup of Lake Station, IN., a sister, Brenda Smith of Hammond, IN., three brothers, Kenneth Alsup of CA., and David Alsup and Dean Alsup, both of Lockport, IL, and a grandson, Jacob Semarau of Woodridge, IL. VOWS ARE PLEDGED IN COLLEGE CHAPEL CEREMONY

Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Lynn Bowling are at home in Alamogordo, New Mexico, following their recent marriage on May 7, 1976, in the chapel at Southern Baptist College at Walnut Ridge. The bride is the former Victoria Lynne Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Leon Smith of Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Bowling is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Leonard Bowling of Blytheville. The Rev. Shreve officiated at the candlelight services.

Candeletrees and baskets of white, blue and pink carnations and baby's breath flanked an arched candelabra. Music was presented by Mrs. Rex Shreve of Grubbs, organist and vocalist, and Ricky White and Jeanette Leverette, vocalists. Attending the bride were Miss Debra Newberry of Grubbs, maid of honor, and Miss Teresa Mosbey of Manila and Mrs. Jerry Kausler of Walnut Ridge, bridesmaids. The bridesmaids gowns were in pink and blue dotted swiss, respectively designed with short puffed sleeves, scooped necklines and ruffles at the hemline. The maid of honor's dress was of similar design in blue dotted swiss. They carried long-stemmed carnations. Jimmy Dean Rogers, uncle of the bride, gave her in marriage. Her gown of white dotted swiss was designed with long sleeves and scooped neckline accented with lace. A wide ruffle edged the hemline of the skirt. Her veil, forming a chapel-length train, was attacked to a Juliet cap in the same fabric as the dress. She carried a bouquet of pink, white and blue carnations encircling an orchid.

Leland Hurt, Jr., of Blytheville was best man. Groomsmen were Robin Cox of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Daniel Humble of Walnut Ridge. Ushers and candlelighters were Doug Rogers, cousin of the bride, and Dale Fields, both of Grubbs. The Mother of the groom wore a long gown of white organza with small floral design in blue and green. Mrs. Jim Rogers, Aunt of the bride, representing the bride's mother wore a long dress in blue knit. Both wore white carnation corsages. A reception followed in the faculty lounge at Southern Baptist College. An open Bible on a stand accented with flowers centered the table covered with a pink and white lace cloth. Pink candles flanked the arrangement.

Serving were Miss Cheryl Bowling, sister of the groom, and Miss Ellen Crain of Grubbs. Mrs. Mike Shreve of College City presided at the guest book. Among the out of town guests was Mrs. Pearl Smith of Detroit, grandmother of the bride. The couple will serve this summer as missionaries for the Home Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention and will return to Southern Baptist College in the fall. Mr. and Mrs. Bowling entertained with a rehearsal dinner the night preceding the wedding at the fellowship hall of Southern Baptist College.
