The PSAT 8/9 is a test offered at and paid for by NOCA. It contains reading, writing and math content assessments which are indicators for identifying student strengths and advanced course work potential.
PSAT scores can be linked with Khan Academy to create a customized study plan.

PSAT is the qualifying test that juniors must take to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) competitions for college scholarships. It also serves as a precursor to the SAT.

The ACT consists of English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning, and Writing (optional).
*Most colleges recommend you take the Writing test at least once. There are a few colleges that require that you take it. Please consult with the individual colleges regarding the need for the Writing Test.

Consists of Reading/Writing and Math.As of January 2021 SAT Subject Tests have been discontinued due to Covid-19, a lack of testing sites and a push by colleges to look at more holistic applications. The essay remains in effect until June/July of 2021.


*Students in the state of Ohio are afforded one free ACT or SAT test taken during the school day in February of their junior year.Fee waivers are available for those who qualify. Contact Mrs. Desmond with questions. Students must request test scores from test providers and have copies sent to their prospective colleges at the time they sit for the examination. If students fail to send scores, they can send them later for an additional fee set by the testing organization. Please note: NOCA does NOT send test scores.

Testing Attempts

The ACT test may not be taken more than 12 times in order to ensure test integrity. It is not recommended to take the test more than three- five times as scores do not usually improve after a certain point.

The SAT may be taken an unlimited number of times. However, the same principle follows.

*If you receive a fee waiver due to income eligibility, you will need the id# on your fee waiver card.

*If you receive academic accommodations, you will need the SSID number on your eligibility letter.

* Be sure to review the calculator policy to ensure that your calculator is an approved calculator.

* Silence phones during the exam, as you may be dismissed if your ringer goes off.
