N.B. 1 and 2 Samuel were originally one book, simply divided between two scrolls. You should think of these two books as really one. There is information that pertains to both on the 1 Samuel page.
Moreover, it is part of an epic history that includes Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings, and spans the period from the entry into the Promised Land to the exile in Babylon.
