Interpreting Different Genres

The Bible contains many different types of literature: story (narrative), poetry, law, letters, etc. Each type of literature is known as a genre. Each has its own style and properties and must be read accordingly if we are to understand it. We do not read a recipe book in the same way that we read a novel and we should not be undiscerning of the type of biblical literature we are reading.

The Bible Project has produced a series of video on How To Read The Bible. A large part of that is recognising, and understanding, the different genres. Number 3 (Literary Styles In The Bible) is specifically about the different genres.
