Verse Mapping

Verse mapping is a step-by-step technique for Bible study. It starts with a particular verse, comparing different translations and understanding the words and phrases. It looks at the historical and literary context of the verse and the links to the same theme elsewhere in scripture. Like all good study it ends with personal application and more prayer.

There are variations in how people do it. It is essentially about digging into the verse.

You can be creative, drawing, colouring etc.. There are are templates available.

  1. Pray.

  2. Select a verse and write it out.

  3. Compare different translation. Write them down. Look for key phrases, verses, themes, what is being said.

  4. Check the definitions of words and phrases that stand out. Check the Greek or Hebrew. What is the verse saying? What questions doe sit raise?

  5. Context. What was happening at the time? To whom? How is this verse connected to others in the Bible?

  6. Personal application. How does this relate to your life? What is God wanting you to do?

  1. Write it

  2. Map it.

  3. Summarise it.

  4. Apply it.

  5. Pray it.
