Redfield Scopes

M40 and Hunting Scopes

To Be Edited

The HI-Lux scope is a copy of the scopes made by Redfield. The Redfield brand was bought out by Leupold, whom also made a few M40 replica scopes. I do not recall when Leupold purchased  Redfield, but the "Redfield" scopes were then manufactured in the Philippines. The Hi-Lux replicas are made in China. Redfield is now owned by Academy Sports and made in China.

The main selling features appeared to be the Auto-Ranging system. The image, from Hi-Lux Optical, explains the use of the function.

The images following are the Redfield adds from the 1960's and 70's. It would appear that by the end of the 1960's, the Auto-Ranging feature lost it's popularity, and the scopes were offered with several different reticles.

1950-1956

Kollmorgen Optical Corp. manufactures the "Bear Cub" rifle scope line for M.L. Stith from 1950 to 1956. The add to the right is from 1952.

The reticles offered by Stith was the Crosshair, Post and Crosshair and Dot. Later designated by Redfiled as the CH, PCH and Dot.

1958-1959

Redfield buys out the scope/optics rights from the Kollmorgen Optical Corp. and continues to manufacture the Bear Cub scopes.
