Dupont No. 1 Smokeless Powders Transition Years

1894-1926 Dupont Smokeless Rifle Powder No. 1

No. 1 Rifle, 1918 "Dead Stag" label

Dupont - Dead Stag Label, Introduced in 1894. For small caliber rifles but worked well in the 45-70.

Dupont No. 1 Bottom Label

Same as Shogun Bulk but smaller granulars. Photo examples of the "Read Instructions On Wrapper" can be seen below.

Same powder as Bulk Shotgun but smaller granulars. Shown in 45-70 Case - John Kort Collection

Dupont Powder Can load data "Wrapper" sheet

On the bottom of the Dupont powder cans, "Read Instructions On Wrapper" is mentioned. This is the Wrapper sheet !!

Form 57, 8-22-99 (1899) - This is an example of the load data sheet I mention above that also acted as a "wrapper" for the Dupont smokeless powder kegs.

This is the absolute only one I have ever seen. This is for the No.1 Rifle Smokeless Powder which would be the red keg. It was suggested that this powder NOT be used in the 44-40 but rather use Dupont No.2 in the blue keg. The outside label probably would have been the same but with a No.2. The 44-40 cartridge in the photo is just to give a size comparison.

Dupont No.1 Rifle Powder "Wrapper" load data sheet

Dupont No.1 Rifle Powder keg with load data "Wrapper".

Although there is no definitive date, this form date gives us a good idea as to the time frame in which it was used. 8-22-1899

No. 1, No. 2 and .30 Cal. Rifle Powder Data

1907- 1926 Dupont No. 1  Rifle Smokeless Powder, Green Label

No. 1 Rifle, "Flag in Wreath" green label can apparently replaced the old red canister.

Dupont - "Flag in Wreath" label but never manufactured by Laflin & Rand.

Load Data

Note the data mentions being like Marksman powder but smaller in granulation. This should be the same as the earlier red can. Note that the 40 and 45 caliber cartridge data has been omitted.

This powder should be of the whiteish rock granular like black powder granular.
