Day 24

Take a Look at All the Amazing Ways You Can Engage in Pixel Art Fun This Season!

Google Applied Digital Skills Lesson

Head to Google Applied Digital Skills and check the awesome, ready-to-go lessons they have for folks to engage with Google Tools in exciting ways! One of the amazing lessons is Art with Google Sheets where you learn how to use conditional formatting to create a pixel art design! Check out some of our most recent winter-themed pixel art from middle school students at Clifford Smart MS in Commerce Twp., MI.

Pixel Art and Music

Use the Chrome Song Maker to make a pixel art design and then see what it sounds like! You could create designs or even pretend you are creating a game screen for a video game. Experiment with different instruments and rhythm instruments. (To add extra bars, go to the settings menu.)

Pixel Art in Minecraft

Take Minecraft a step further and challenge students to create a pixel art design that can be seen by flying above.

Pixel Art Sprites and Gifs

Check out the app Piskel! You can create your own pixel art, but then you can also animate it pretty simply and download it as your own sprite or gif! This is a perfect extension, and pretty simple to figure out once you start playing around with it. (Tip: When downloading it as a gif, make sure you increase the scale so it comes out larger.)

Check out the above gif! One of my students used 126 frames to create this animation using Piskel!
