Day 15
Whittling Wooden Wizards
Want to go old school?
Whittling is a great way to whittle the time away! Try your hand at making this wizard or go freestyle. Practicing with sticks is a cheap way to get started too. This project was adapted from The Complete Starter Guide to Whittling which is highly recommended for beginners.

Forming the Hat
Make a cut on either side of a corner to define the hat. Notice that a Swiss army knife works well too for this project.
Going Deeper
Push the knife away from you to dig in to define the hat.
Define the Nose
Make a straight cut on the corner to make the end of the nose. Then, cut up to this mark to form the upper lip.
Cutting in the Eyes
This is the hardest part and takes some practice. I ended up restarting on the backside of mine after my first failed attempt.
Symmetry
The key is to make a deep cut at the bridge of the nose and then carving up to this cut to define the nose and cheeks.
Beard Lines
Carve in some lines to define the beard.
Mouth
Cut in the mouth and then shave away the beard.
Hat
The hat is the the most fun to make. You can shape it however you like and have fun taking some deeper cuts off at a time.
