WELCOME MESSAGES

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Team Sask acknowledges the work we do to support a thriving amateur sport community takes place on the traditional lands and waterways are covered by Treaties 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10, the original lands of the Cree, Dakota, Dene, Lakota, Nakota, and Salteaux peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. We respect the treaties made here and are grateful to work, live, and play on this land. This land acknowledgement is a way to reaffirm and pay respects to our relationships and partnerships.

The land we will gather on for the Games in Prince Edward Island is the ancestral land of the Mi’kmaq and we will respect the Mi’kmaq as the Indigenous people of PEI. There are many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people that live and work across the island today. Team Sask and the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games stand with all Indigenous people, past and present, in promoting the wise stewardship of the lands on which we will be enjoying these Games.
