Message from the Counselors
It’s only a matter of years, or even one year for some, that you will be graduating high school and pursuing a college education, starting your career, entering the U.S Armed Forces, or joining the world of work. Your decisions in high school will have an impact on your future.
At Morgan County R-II schools, we are preparing the students of today for the world of tomorrow. The counseling department strives to help students meet the goals they have set and ease the transition from high school to post-high school activities. Students will complete school with the academic preparation essential to choose from a wide range of substantial post-secondary options, including college. We are dedicated to College and Career Readiness, which can be defined as the level of preparation a student needs in order to enroll and succeed at a post-secondary institution that enables students to enter a career pathway with potential future advancement.
Each student must set educational goals and create a college and career roadmap for success in high school and beyond. This roadmap includes development of a flexible career focus and an education plan that is clearly defined, rigorous, and relevant to assure a successful and efficient transition to postsecondary education and / or the world of work. This is a student’s scope and sequence of coursework and related activities based upon their chosen Career Path or Career Cluster.
It is a roadmap that includes graduation requirements, approved coursework for the student’s educational and career goals, and developmentally-appropriate work-based learning experiences. This is developed cooperatively with the student and the student’s counselor, teachers, and family members. The plan is reviewed at least annually and is revised as needed.
Take great care in the classes and courses of study you choose. If at any time you need help in planning your future, please feel free to stop by and visit with us. In this curriculum guide, you will see the courses that Morgan County R-II High School offers to help prepare you for your future, and you will also find information to assist in your pursuit of a rewarding career. Students who take challenging courses as well as occupational courses have proven to be the most successful, so take time when choosing your class schedule.
