The Local Area
Name, locate, describe and discuss key landmarks and geographical features of our county of West Sussex employing maps, keys and symbols.
Describe and understand types of settlement and identify how and why land use changes over time with a specific focus on Cissbury Ring.
Describe and understand key aspects of human geography, including how natural resources can be used for energy creation with a focus on Rampion Wind Farm and its location on the Sussex coastline.
Use OS maps to begin to understand how to locate local landmarks (Cissbury Ring) using 4 figure grid references.

In Year 2 , children learnt buildings in the local area and how they had changed and developed.
Year 2: Local History: changes in buildings
In Year 1, children visit Salvington Windmill and understand how physical geography (weather and seasons) can impact human geography.
In year 5, children will learn about The Blitz & WWII
In Year 5, children identify and describe changing local land use over time comparing Worthing with another coastal town in England (Penzance) using census information and OS maps.
