The Local Area
Name, locate and describe key landmarks in the local area, using simple locational/directional language and the four main compass directions.
Undertake a regional study of the Findon Valley area understanding how its unique physical geography (as a valley) impacts on its human geography.
Use increasingly advanced geographical vocabulary to refer to the key physical features of Findon Valley and its surrounding area: hill, mountain, peak, vale, valley, dale, river and stream.

Identify and describe weather associated with the four seasons in the UK including understanding a basic weather forecast including the vocabulary degrees and Celsius.
Understand the similarities and differences in the weather of a coastal town (Worthing) and a major inland city (London) by analysing weather forecasts.
Investigate how the local roads got their names and how they link to the physical geography of our area.
During a walk of the local area, collect and present data (label a map with the names of roads) and analyse results (draw conclusions about why the roads have been given their names).

In Year 3, children describe and understand types of settlement and identify how and why land use changes over time with a specific focus on the local area and Cissbury Ring.
