K-12 Lessons

Common Sense Education Scope and Sequence

  • This Website contains Lessons for K-12 from the new curriculum materials created by Common Sense Education
  • In addition to the lessons, you will find suggestions to use resources that are specific to those which we use at our school. This includes apps, GSUITE tools, connections to SeeSaw activities, Nearpod, and more
  • Most resources have been saved to a shared Digital Citizenship Team Drive in GSUITE format (Google Slides, Google Docs, Google Forms). Should you wish to edit any of the documents, you can make a copy to do so. You can also share links to specific resources to share with students. Secondary School teachers could place Google Docs in their Assignment Templates folders to assign to students to complete.
  • The lessons for each grade contain one lesson from each main area of focus:
  • Some of the lessons for grades 3-5 have been directly linked to the Bootcamps for Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 5, which students will do in the first weeks of the school year.
  • Additional lessons for these grades can be selected throughout various Units of Inquiry during the year. When possible, try to link lessons to the curriculum you are teaching. You can include links to specific lessons on this website to your Curriculum Planner.
  • Some lessons may need to be taught as standalone or customized to better link to the curriculum.
  • Lessons for grades 6-12 can be taught throughout the year when Digital Citizenship is the focus. Where possible, subject teachers should try to integrate content from lessons in their curriculum when connections are found.
  • The Technology Integration Ideas section provides some ideas of how you can use the various apps and tools available to students within the lesson. You may have your own ideas as well regarding tools which can be used.
  • Some lessons include links to Breakout Edu lessons. We have a kit and school account to access these lessons. They are a great way to combine the analog with the digital.
  • The Applied Digital Skills website from Google is focused on Middle and High School students and connects lessons to GSUITE tools. Their Online Safety and Digital Well-Being Lessons are focused on lessons connected with those Created by Common Sense Education. As a teacher, you can sign in with your school Google account to create and class and assign lessons to students. Students can join using a class code and you can monitor their progress with the lessons. These lessons can be integrated with Digital Citizenship Lessons but also used for a variety of other topic areas to link learning with GSUITE skills.
