Showmaster ist mein Beruf,

ein Beruf, ein Beruf, den der Teufel schuf,

Ich frag Sie jetzt ganz banal,

halten Sie den für normal,

ein Beruf dem kein’ Vetrauen schenkt,

wer an eine hohe Rente denkt,

nennt man ihn, wird man verdammt,

zum Beispiel auf dem Standesamt:

[Stimme:] Erschienen sind heute Cornelia Schmitt, geboren in Wilhelmshaven

am 20.4.1940, ohne Beruf, und Rudi Carrell, geboren: Alkmaar am 19.12.1934,

Beruf: Showmaster... Sie wollen also einen Showmaster heiraten? Naja, ich

wünsche der Braut trotzdem alles Gute!

Showmaster ist mein Beruf,

ein Beruf, ein Beruf, den der Teufel schuf,

Dass ein Mensch sich so versteift,

diesen irren Job ergreift,

das ist wirklich schwierig zu verstehn’,

und man kann es alle Tage sehn’,

auf dem Passamt, alles lief,

bis der Beamte plötzlich rief:

[Stimme:] Hallo Sie! Ihr Beruf ist Showmaster? Muss das unbedingt in den Pass

rein? Showmaster... glauben Sie wirklich, dass man Sie damit noch über die

Grenze lässt? Naja, mir isses Wurscht...

Showmaster ist mein Beruf,

ein Beruf, ein Beruf, den der Teufel schuf,

Klingt auch ziemlich primitiv,

kein Diplom, kein Meisterbrief,

ernährt denn sowas Kind und Weib,

es ist doch nur ein Zeitvertreib,

wenn ich zur Bank geh für’n Kredit,

beisse ich stehts auf Granit:

[Stimme:] Und was machen Sie so alles?

[Carrell:] Showmaster!

[Stimme:] Ein nettes Hobby. Aber was Ihre Bitte um diese ziemlich hohe

Hypothek angeht, womit bestreiten Sie Ihren Lebensunterhalt?

[Carrell:] Na als Showmaster!

[Stimme:] *Lacht* Showmaster, haha, Showmaster... *räuspert sich* ...

Sie hören von uns!

Showmaster ist mein Beruf,

ein Beruf, ein Beruf, den der Teufel schuf,

Niemand sieht davon den Sinn,

ist doch keine Zukunft drin,

Mutter nimm die Wäsche lieber ab,

Showmaster sind in der Stadt,

sperr die Tochter ein Zuhaus,

Carrell ist da, lass sie nicht raus!

[Stimme:] He, was machen Sie da?

[Carrell:] Ich mach Schluß! Ich springe von der Brücke!

[Stimme:] Das ist verboten! Name?

[Carrell:] Carrell...

[Stimme:] Rudi Carrell?

[Carrell:] Ja.

[Stimme:] Dann springen Sie...

ein Beruf, ein Beruf, den der Teufel schuf,

Doch möchte ich nichts andres sein,

ich liebe dies, und trügt der Schein,

etwas andres lern ich doch nicht mehr,

darum mach ich weiter wie bisher,

und tanz ich auch auf dem Vesuv,

ich möcht immer singen,

Sie zum Lachen bringen,

Showmaster bleibt mein Beruf!

That a person would stiffen up like that

Take up this crazy job,

That is really hard to understand

And one can see it every day

At the passport office, all was well

Until the official called out

Hello there! Your job is showmaster? Do you really have to put that in your passport? Do you really think they’ll let you cross the border? Well, I don’t care…

It sounds pretty primitive,

No diploma, no masters certificate

Will that feed kid and wife?

Its just a pastime

If i go to the bank for a loan

I always bite on granite (idiom, to hit a brick wall)

And what do you do?

Nice hobby. But as to your request for this high mortgage, what do you do for a living?

Why's my job such a hang-up?

This I really cannot understand

For this no need to take a class

[Voice:] Haha, Showmaster, haha Showmaster *cough*
