About Us!

We are students in German Studies at the University of Washington. This quarter (spring 2025) we took part in a course with Prof. Ellwood Wiggins called "Translation: Theory and Practice."  That might sound dry, but we spent the whole quarter translating songs of our own choosing. Every week had a theme, and everyone chose a song based on that theme to discuss and translate. We also read essays and manifestos by translators (e.g., Martin Luther, Friedrich Schleiermacher, Walter Benjamin, Susan Bernofsky, etc.), and tested out these theorists' claims in our own translations.
