IMPORTANT INFO
In a minute or so, you will navigate to our UVA website to access the Canvas login links. When you do that, a new browser window will open that will take you away from this onboarding course page. Be prepared to search for this browser window so you can return to it for the remaining instructions. Otherwise, you will not know what to do.
TIP:
If you have lots of browser windows open on your phone when you search for this window, try searching for "sites.google.com" or "onboarding course" to find this browser page. If you need assistance, contact a Learning Coach Support team member.
STEP 1 -- Go to UVA's website
Click the following link to navigate to our school website. A screenshot of the UVA home page is shown below.

From this point forward, you will switch back and forth between two browser windows -- e.g., this window and UVA's website -- so you can read the instructions on this onboarding course page and can perform the steps on the other webpage. Use the method required by your phone to view your open browser windows.
STEP 2 -- Go to the Login Page
a. Click the Hamburger button
(circled in red below)
b. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Canvas for Students
(Circled below in the partial screenshot)
The page that opens will look like the screenshot below.
STEP 3 -- Log in to the Student's Canvas Account
Click "Log in with Active Directory" (circled below)
You will land on the "Sign in" page as shown in the screenshot.
STEP 4 -- Enter the Student's School Email Address, and click NEXT to continue
Type the student's school email address in the blank field where the screenshot says, "Enter student's school email address here." An example is below.
firstname.lastname@uviewstudents.org
(e.g., john.adams@uviewstudents.org)
Follow the instructions above to enter the email address.
Contact the Learning Coach Support team if the email address is not accepted.
Click the NEXT button. (Circled in the screenshot)
STEP 5 (Parts A and B)
A. Enter the Student's Temporary Password
The format of the temporary password is:
first name initial last name initial date of birth
________
The initials are lower case. (Student Buddy Morris Demo's initials would be bd, the lower case initials of his first and last names)
The date of birth includes the two-digit month, two-digit day, and four-digit year, separated by forward slashes.
Buddy Demo's birth date is June 5th, 2006. This part of his password would be formatted like this:
06/05/2006
There are no spaces in the password.
Buddy Demo's complete password would be:
bd06/05/2006
B. Sign in
Refer to the information for Step 6A to format the student's password.
Sign in after entering the password.
(The Sign in button is circled above.)
6. For security purposes, you may enter a new password when you are prompted to do that.
Please write the password down in a location where you can find it later. (You will be glad you followed this instruction.)
7. Follow the remaining prompts until you land on the Canvas Home Page (also known as the Homeroom).
At this point, you are logged in to the student's Canvas account.
