Canvas Observer Account Instructions

(A Learning Coach Section)

This section of the course is strictly for Learning Coaches. It is required and should be completed now. (Teachers cannot send electronic communication to Learning Coaches until this step is completed.)

- Every UVA student must be observed (or monitored) by a Learning Coach in Canvas.
- Learning Coaches use a separate Canvas Observer account to monitor the student.

The Canvas Observer account:

Is linked (or paired) with the student's account and allows Learning Coaches to see your child's courses, grade book, and school-level announcements.
Provides a way for Learning Coaches monitor the student's engagement and school performance (i.e., lesson completion status and grades) without disrupting the student while learning.
Is a major communication channel between you and your child's teachers, counselor, Principal, and other school employees. Without it, you will be out of the loop, which puts the student's success at risk.

Established Learning Coaches update their existing Canvas Observer accounts during onboarding so they can support their new enrollees in Canvas.
