The Canvas training course is called "Student Training" in Canvas. However, the course is for students and Learning Coaches.
Students and Learning Coaches are encouraged to take the training together, if possible.
The "Student Training" course can take up to six hours from start to finish. That's the length of a standard school day at UVA. Take breaks periodically.
Complete everything in the course including the graded practice activities.
Graded activities provide feedback for the Student Training course. They are not factored into the student's overall school grade. Do not worry.
Repeat activities to improve a score on practice exercises. This is why there are grades in the course. Use this as an opportunity to learn and practice taking assessments to improve your score (but try to get the correct answers the first time; retries are not unlimited in regular courses.)
TIP: Read the instructions carefully before answering questions and submitting an assignment.
If multiple new students are onboarding in the family, each student is expected to complete the Student Training course on their assigned school laptop. We recommend the following for Learning Coaches with this scenario:
Set up each student's laptop and have the students take the training course at the same time.
Sit beside one of the students to learn about Canvas while the other students are learning on their respective laptops. (Sitting with and guiding the youngest student or the student who needs the most assistance is the best approach.)
Bookmark this page and return to this course after you complete the Canvas training. This is not the end of the onboarding course.
