Public -- We are a Louisiana public school. As such, we must abide by state and federal regulations for public school education. That includes aligning our curriculum with Louisiana's academic standards; demonstrating that our students are experiencing academic growth year after year on state-mandated placement tests and assessments for grades K-12 (e.g., LEAP 2025, ACT); and adhering to attendance requirements and pupil progression guidelines for Louisiana public schools.
Online -- Our curriculum and instruction are provided via the internet in an environment called a Learning Management System (or LMS), also referred to as a learning platform. UVA uses the Canvas platform as our LMS. Canvas contains courseware that our teachers have organized to deliver instruction in an optimal sequence. Teachers enhance their courses with recorded and live instructional sessions to ensure our curriculum meets and/or exceeds Louisiana's standards for public school students.
Charter -- As a charter school, UVA has the opportunity to use innovative strategies to educate and engage our students. In addition to using our LMS to deliver instruction, we also provide opportunities for our students to collaborate in person with faculty and other students throughout the year. UVA is committed to ensuring that our students are empowered and equipped with the tools, knowledge, experiences, and skills they need to be successful in school and in life.
