K-8 courses are determined by the student's grade level and approved accommodations.
High school courses are determined by the student's chosen pathway towards graduation and earned credits.
Students select a TOPS University Diploma Pathway or a Jump Start Pathway (for career and technical education). Learn more about Louisiana's graduation pathways for public school students here, and learn about UVA's pathways towards graduation here .
Academic counselors work very closely with families to guide students towards the intended graduation date along the student's chosen pathway.
Year-long courses are split into two semesters. Some high school courses are only one semester long.
Although students are not in a physical classroom with the teacher, it is important to remember that our UVA students are not teaching themselves, and your role is not to teach either. As we mentioned in Your UVA Team, the child that you are coaching has certified teachers for every course plus a host of additional educators and administrators in place to instruct and support them. And remember, we are here to support you as well.
