Reads teachers' announcements and messages promptly in Canvas to stay informed about all courses (e.g., upcoming assessments, changes to assignments, opportunities for tutoring assistance, etc.).
Follows the agreed-upon plan that you established with your child. This includes making expected progress by agreed-upon checkpoints throughout the day, and not having the majority of the day's assignments unfinished at the checkpoint at the end of the day. (Refer to Tips for Monitoring Daily School Work for a reminder.)
Accepts your redirection to repeat or complete an assignment.
Keeps overdue assignments to the agreed upon weekly minimum.
The ideal scenario is for the student to complete all assignments before the next week begins. That prevents overwhelm and avoids a dangerous backlog. However, a limit of three incomplete lessons total across all subjects is a manageable backlog at the end of a week. (A student can recover from three incomplete activities fairly easily.)
Remember -- Attendance is measured by the student's lesson completion percentage for the week. When you develop an accountability system with the student (explanations and resources are available on the next page), include incentives for maintaining perfect or excellent attendance.
Reads teachers' feedback on graded assessments, and acts upon the feedback.
Takes enough time to read a lesson, to study, and to review for assessments.

NOTE:
This item is not directly applicable to lower elementary students and students with special needs who rely upon the Learning Coach to address communication with the school. The greater responsibility shifts to the Learning Coach in these cases, but we encourage you to keep the student informed. That will ensure the student understands the school is sending messages, and it might prevent the feeling that the student is being homeschooled.
