Remind is set up to send messages to the phone number and email address that you provided during the registration of your child(ren). Here are some common scenarios that Learning Coaches experience with their Remind accounts:
You already have a Remind account from a previous school.
You would like to use the optional Remind app.
You chose to STOP Remind messages previously.
You are not receiving Remind messages by phone and/or email.
The Remind app is not notifying you that you have UVA messages.
You would like to change your name or the phone number and/or email address where your messages are delivered.
You have duplicate Remind accounts and would like to merge them.
You would like to access your Remind account on a computer.
Other variations on those themes might occur, but these are the most common scenarios that we have encountered so far. Each scenario presents a unique opportunity for adjustments to be made to the Remind account, if desired or required. However, after UVA creates the subscription, Remind requires that you make the adjustments that you desire.
When your subscription was established for UVA, Remind might have identified you as an existing subscriber from a previous school based on your phone number and/or email address. When that occurs, your name is displayed the way you set it up previously (e.g., "Rosa's mom" rather than "Marion Phillips"). Your previous notification settings carry forward as well (e..g, old phone numbers). If you would like to change your name or your notification settings, refer to scenario 6 below.
If you already have the Remind app installed on your mobile device, that same app will be used. Please refer to scenario 5 below to ensure the app is working optimally for you.
To install the Remind app on your mobile device, go to your device's App store (the App Store for Apple devices; the Google Play Store for Android devices) and download the app to your device. Follow the instructions to login to your account. If you require the school code, it is @uview2020.
You will not receive Remind messages, or you will not receive messages at the contact destination (i.e., phone or email) that you blocked.
To opt back in to Remind, text @uview2020 to the number 81010.
You opted out of Remind messages previously by texting STOP. Opt in to receive our messages. (Text @uview2020 to the number 81010 to opt in.)
You have the Remind app, but you logged out of it previously. Follow the instructions in #5 ("The Remind App is Not Notifying You That You Have UVA Messages") on this page.
Your contact information is not correct in JCampus where student data is stored. (1) Call Student Services (225-421-2900) to verify or update your contact information, and (2) follow the instructions in #6 ("You Would Like to Change the Phone Number and/or Email Address") on this page.
Emails are landing in your Spam folder. Search Spam for messages, and whitelist the address to prevent messages from being trapped going forward.
You did not provide a cell phone number during your child's registration. Follow the instructions in #6 ("You Would Like to Change the Phone Number and/or Email Address") on this page.
You might have logged out of the app previously. Launch the app to reactivate it. Follow any prompts.
Update the app, if required.
Request help on the Remind.com website.
Important: Please try to avoid using your child's name as your Remind account name so that we can know we are communicating with the student's Learning Coach. It can be confusing on our end. (You can include your child's name as part of your account name, but only using your child's name makes it difficult to distinguish you from your child when we try to send a message.)
---------
Before following the steps below, notify Student Services (225-421-2900) that your contact information changed so that JCampus can be updated. (This is not related to Remind, but it is important for our school records.)
Login to your account at Remind.com.
Click on your name in the upper lefthand corner of the Remind window
Navigate to Account settings, then Notification preferences.
Update your contact information on the Notifications preferences page by deleting and adding devices or updating your name, phone number, or email address.
Adjust other notification preferences accordingly. (Scroll down the page to see all of the options).
Duplicate accounts can occur for a variety of reasons including using different email addresses with the platform or changing your contact information since you signed up for Remind the first time.
---------
Login to your account at Remind.com with your phone number or email address.
Click on your name in the upper lefthand corner of the Remind window
Navigate to Account settings, then Notification preferences.
Click Add device to add the email or phone number that is associated with a duplicate Remind account.
Follow the remaining prompts to merge the accounts.
Accessing your Remind account on a computer rather than a mobile device has its advantages (e.g., when you are sent a link to a website that is easier to view on a computer monitor rather than on the small screen of a mobile device).
